Baby pooing in the bath?!

Hi everyone

DS is 14 months old, and one of his great joys is bathtime. Unfortunately, over the last month or so, he has developed an unfortunate tendency of shitting during bathtime.

I can literally have changed him out of a pooey nappy immediately before the bath, and he still summons up reserves of poo to offload. What’s even worse is, he finds it absolutely hilarious.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas how to stop it? Does this behaviour just eventually stop on its own?

Thanks

Its pretty normal. He will in time hold it in as the faff of shivering in a towel while you scrub the tub and change the bath water is a negative natural consequence of pooing in the tub. There’s no point chiding him for it as at 14mos they’re not really able to control pooing yet.

It does mean if he’s ever constipated as a toddler you can be sure a warm bath followed by potty time could keep him regular.

Yes that is the silver lining I suppose…

Im not sure he’ll get the negative reinforcement you mention - when he poos, we drain the bath water, wipe off the tub, then shower him down. He unfortunately absolutely loves the shower too.

Leave him in a nappy until he’s done it? It’s likely just the relaxing nature of the water.

Skip baths for a bit and just use the shower? He might feel less likely to poo, worth a try at least? That sounds so frustrating, good luck!

This has inspired me in that a swim nappy might work….

He poos multiple times a day - so unfortunately it isn’t a case of one and done. Tonight he pooed, DH sorted him out within a few mins, he went in the bath a few mins later, and within 10 mins, bath turd.

Yeah this is maybe a good idea. But he loves the bath and playing with his toys, and it’s a relaxing end to the day for him. Or should be…

I think Zeroes means leave the nappy on in the bath until he poos, then just take the nappy off

5 mins in the bath to get his bowels relaxed, then sit him on the potty (even in the bath if the water isn't too deep) for the poo. Back to bath once it is.
