What to wear for office visit

I am moving to a new job soon and have to drop into the office to show ID - this meeting will be with my soon-to-be line manager.

What do I wear?

I first thought, normal office wear (smart trousers and shirt/top) but now I'm not sure if that would be a bit odd, or can I get away with less formal clothes. Obviously not the scruffy trackies and hoodie I am wearing at the moment, but smart jeans + nice top + boots, rather than my normal trainers be ok? I haven't got casual trousers other than jeans and all my leggings are sports type ones not leisure ones.

I am massively overthinking this and now and can't decide what is appropriate!

I would have thought office wear i.e. smart trousers & blouse, dress, skirt & top etc. I really would not wear jeans when meeting my new manager.

I would stick to their dress code even for an informal visit. It gives a vibe that you’re committed and that you fit in with their culture.

it’s a bit hard to say without knowing what area you work in. If you’re just picking something up from reception then wear whatever and keep your coat on 🙂 it’s different if it’s a formal meeting/induction. Jeans would be a no in some office scenarios but not in others. No problem with boots. Can you remember how the line manager dressed at your interviews? Mirroring their office work is probably your safest option. You ‘ll present as empathetic and professional/ job-ready because they’ll see themselves reflected in you.

Why would it be odd to wear workwear to a work meeting?

I'd go for slightly casual but still smart. Maybe black trousers, nice blouse/top. I think as long as you're not in trackies etc, smart casual is fine. You're oy dropping ID, so they would hardly expect you to be in a suit or formal office attire. Just a nice happy medium will be absolutely fine imo

Just wear what you'd wear to work in an office. This is not a difficult situation,

I’d wear a dress - the kind of thing you might wear to work or just out shopping. I’m the ultimate fence sitter.
