They're both quite old so 8 would be better than 7.

AnApparitionQuipped · 23/10/2022 13:07

Have you considered an iPhone SE?

Heytheredeliah · 23/10/2022 13:09

*an iphone 8

Both are pretty obsolete. Why not buy an android?

I like mine!

Silverpossum · 23/10/2022 13:11

Agree not the 7 as I believe Apple no longer include them in system updates. I'd say also say an SE rather than an 8 (but not the original 2016 release SE - the newer one)

I’ve got an SE ( the second generation) Love it, love that is quite small - though I also use an iPad mini in the house for when a larger screen etc is more helpful. My DH replaced his 7 with an SE and really likes it as well.

JaneJeffer · 23/10/2022 13:20

Terrible camera on SE if that's important to you.

It's fine outdoors but agree, not great in low lighting.

They’re all obsolete. We’re on the 14 now!

I would go for the iphone 14 but I can't afford it

I’d buy the most recent one you can afford. That way you will receive updates for the longest possible time. I definitely wouldn’t buy anything that was already too old for updates as you will miss any new security protections, plus apps that you use will also stop being supported on older versions.

SE isn't obsolete - still on sale and supported. Not everyone can afford the 14, it's over a grand!

bloodyeverlastinghell · 23/10/2022 13:41

I got an iPhone 11 for 99 quid and an unlimited everything contract for £20 a month. I think you could go more modern if you shop around.

EmmaStone · 23/10/2022 13:41

I've literally just traded in my 8 as it was getting slower and the battery was draining quickly. As others say, I'd try to get the newest you can.

BooksAndHooks · 23/10/2022 13:41

I wouldn’t get one so old as the 7 is already not supported and 8 will not be supported long.

Are you looking to buy outright rather than a contract?

iPhone 11 is really good, I got one for my daughter and the camera seems better than on my 12.

BlackberryCat · 23/10/2022 13:46

It would probably be easier if you gave your budget and requirements and then people could make suggestions for you. The vagueposting isn’t really helpful for anyone.

Newnamefor2021 · 23/10/2022 13:47

11! I wouldn’t go older. I have an 11 and two of my children have 11s. My husband has the 14 pro max yesterday but had an 11 previously. It’s a fab phone. Unfortunately with Apple you do need to keep fairly up to date.

if budget is really an issue the is consider switching to android. You’d get better for your money. I like you like apple, but unfortunately you are paying a premium for it.

Wallywobbles · 23/10/2022 13:48

Dd has just got the 2022 SE. much cheaper than the others and she v happy. Doesn't do 5g but 5g is shit so no loss.

Lykia · 23/10/2022 13:49

Look on Music Magpie for a good quality secondhand one. I buy my dc's ones from there are they are great. I go for good condition.

I know, I didn’t mean get the 14! I just meant one that isn’t obsolete in terms of support etc.
