Do I need this lump looked at? getting a bit worried.

For context I suffer from congenital lymphedema of the legs (since birth) so I have had weird bumps etc on my legs before, but I noticed this four weeks ago and it hasn't gone away or changed at all and don't remember having one like this before.

Obviously I've worked myself into a state about skin cancer (particularly lymphangiosarcoma - a deadly but rare cancer people with lymphedema are more at risk of)

Any idea what else it could be other than something terrifying?

Seeing my nurse this week most likely, but just in a real state about it this morning Sad

Sorry for the poor picture quality but quite self conscious of my legs.

Ingrowing hair? Gnat bite? Cat stuck her claw in when she was on your lap?

There are so many things it could be that aren't the worst case, especially as your legs are already vulnerable due to your existing diagnosis.

If it is causing you anxiety, then yes you should get it looked at. Nothing else is going to put your mind at rest.

Hair doesn't grow on my lower leg at all so not that. Maybe an insect bite or though I can't see any 'puncture' iyswim and it's been like this for four weeks. Doesn't itch or hurt or anything but feels only ever so slightly raised.

Yes I suppose you're right but I was just looking for a bit of reassurance I suppose. I just find it odd that it's not healed/changed in four weeks now.

I’d get it looked at if you’ve had it a few weeks. I did this a couple of months ago with a lump I couldn’t actually see, but I could feel. I was seen pretty quickly and other areas examined also.

Not medically trained but it looks like a lipoma to me. I have one on my lower leg and my GP said they are totally harmless. They're just trapped lumps of fat.

pigalow27 · 23/10/2022 19:00

And in terms of healing, if it's a lipoma they don't heal. There forever.

MumbleCrumbs · 23/10/2022 21:32

Can lipomas be red/darker than the surrounding skin? I thought that they were mainly flesh coloured?

Mine is darker but I am very pale. Looks like a darker pink firm spot under the surface of the skin. Had it 12 years or so.

I've something similar on my lower leg - it's purple and it's been there at least 20 years. The GP told me what it was but I've forgotten.

However, please get yours checked (as I did)

Thanks all. I've made an appt with my nurse this week to have it looked at.
