Bloody teenagers...missed last train

DD18 and her friend have been to a gig in London this evening. It was due to finish in plenty of time for the last train if not the one before.

Gig overran and presumably instead of leaving a few minutes early they stayed to the end and missed the last train.

They have got on another...the station takes them to one half way back. It's a 90 minute round trip by car to pick them up or they can wait for a connection just after 2am which will get them to a station about 25 minutes from home.

WWYD? For various reasons I'm minded to let them get the 2am. Station they will be waiting at is attached to a major airport so likely to be busy, not a deserted outpost somewhere.

If DD and friend are going to be staying together, as it’s a busy station I’d be minded to let them catch the 2am train to a closer station.

NoSquirrels · 23/10/2022 01:07

I’d go get them at the 45-minutes away place, I think. If you’ve still got to dryvev25 minutes to collect at 2am I can’t see why that’s better!

sheepdogdelight · 23/10/2022 01:07

On the basis that the 2am train means a 50 minute round trip at an even more unsociable hour, I'd go and pick them up.

Clymene · 23/10/2022 01:07

I'd be tempted to make them suffer.

Tiredmumno1 · 23/10/2022 01:09

I was going to say I'd wait til the 2am one.

However if you're awake anyway you may as well go. At least they'll be safe and with you in a warm car 😊.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 23/10/2022 01:09

Let them get 2am train

notangelinajolie · 23/10/2022 01:09

Go to bed. They will be fine.

DD has just called...friends dad is going to pick them up, bless him. Will be going round with several beers tomorrow.

I don't do a great deal of night driving...it's partly country lanes and I'd have had to take DDs car which I'm unfamiliar with as mine doesn't have enough petrol for that length of journey, hence the let them get the later option.

Apparently her friend wasn't feeling well after the gig (she's not big on crowds) and they thought they had an extra 15 minutes for the train.

What a lovely bloke 😊

I can understand why you didn't want to go now. At least you can relax again without the worry of what to do.

I don't think I could have gone quite that fat but ikwym.

This time next year they'll be at uni and will have to sort themselves out.
