Things That Have Made Your Day Lately

I have put on a lot of weight over the last couple of years as I can’t exercise due to injury so I’m feeling fat, old & generally down. Chatting to a colleague at work today & telling him that my shorts keep falling down as they’re mens’ ones. He asked if I had a belt & I said I wasn’t sure I had one that fitted as I’d put on so much weight. He said “ You’re not that big” which actually was ok coming from him as he’s extremely overweight & then he said “ You’re lovely”. It could have been sleazy & inappropriate but it absolutely wasn’t as he’s the sweetest guy. Really did make my day!

Our neighbours moved out a few weeks back and the house is still empty. Yesterday they had six months worth of toilet paper delivered to their old address instead of their new one 200 miles away. Messaged us asking if we wanted it. RESULT!!

StripeyDeckchair · 22/10/2022 19:11

Got home early from work yesterday and curled up on the sofa with my book & a cuppa.
Youngest came in with her drink & snacks for us to share and cuddled up to me.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/10/2022 22:50

Anyone else?

I have a crush on a lovely guy at yoga. I’m a single mum and have sole custody of my child. Dating won’t be on my radar any time soon, and so the opportunities for meeting someone are very limited/non-existent. He usually plonks himself next to me, and I’ve seen him glancing at me. Neither of us has spoken to each other. It’s just so nice to find someone attractive! It’s not a big thing, but it makes me smile. It’s really nice practicing next to him. I love my yoga studio in general as it sees in the most lovely, down to earth, and kind people from all walks of life.

I had my youngest's parents evening this week. I was braced for another round of what has gone before but he's actually doing really, really well. I practically skipped home.

FGSWhatNow · 22/10/2022 23:41
  • Two amazing parents evening reports for the DC
  • The little one had an inset day yesterday and he challenged me to a few thousand games of noughts and crosses. He beat me.
  • The big one dug out a 1000 piece jigsaw today and pleaded with me to help, so we spent the afternoon jigsawing instead of me doing chores
  • And to balance things out: I'm away with work next week and have a 5 hour journey each way... and I'm travelling alone. I can't bloody wait Grin

Pils have been feeding a stray cat for months, they’ve tried to find the owners and eventually managed to get hold of it and got it scanned, only for the number to go straight to voicemail. Cat doesn’t like their dogs so we were all discussing which of us should keep it, when they got a call from the vets to say the deliriously happy owner had rang back and it’s been missing 6 months from miles away. Think they must have been sat with the engine on, fingers poised over the satnav waiting for the vets to call them back with pils address they arrived so quickly.

Our rescue dog went to the back door and asked to be let out for a wee tonight!

Fantastic progress.

Met a Strictly celeb by chance in a local cafe and had the loveliest chat.

ludocris · 23/10/2022 00:11

Was on the train today with DS (4). A very nice lady was sitting in front of us with an adorable guide dog, and I commented that the dog was lovely. She said 'you're a lovely mum! So nice to hear someone playing with their child rather than sticking a tablet under their nose'. (I didn't add that at home DS is a bit of an iPad addict 😬)

My legs stopped working 2 years ago.

I threw a silly early halloween party today for my sister and a joint friend.

They took an arm each and held me up so I could dance in the living room like a "normal person"

Could have cried.

SeptemberSon that’s so funny! You must have so many loo rolls! And it’s reminded me that we need more!

These are lovely. Thank you for making this thread @SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows

Sounds like a nice environment @Shitfather and good to have someone decent around. I'd like to find a place like that

petalpower · 24/10/2022 11:33

I saw a beautiful barn owl swooping over the field next to our house whilst out walking the dog this morning. I often hear owls but very rarely see them.

Someone tagged me in on a Facebook site for a town that my family originally come from. It was a post showing a newspaper interview with my great grandfather many years ago, complete with a photo of him. He was a very well known character in that area and it was the clearest photo I have ever seen of him. I felt as if he was smiling directly at me. I have lost all my birth family, most of them dying at a young age and I only have one sibling left. The fact that this person, who I've never met, but had remembered my connection to the area when I originally joined the group, had bothered to make sure I saw the photo of my great grandfather was very touching. Seeing his lovely, smiling face so clearly (I never met him) took away some of my loneliness and made my day.

RJnomore1 · 24/10/2022 11:56

I got an interview for a job I really really want.

mamabear715 · 24/10/2022 12:04

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows What a lovely thread! Very much enjoying it. How lovely @Eightiesgirl , I hope you're not often lonely though?

I was chatting to my youngest DS today, recalling his schooldays - he went to a school for similar ASD kids - one day, as a treat, it was pizza day, the teacher was so pleased with the huge range of pizzas on offer at a local supplier. EVERY child in the class chose margherita! Hilarious! What did he expect from Aspie kids? ;-)

Asher33 · 24/10/2022 12:11

I posted on Twitter that I'd gone to the football and how great it was to actually be able to have followed the game. (I'm colourblind and some teams play in too similar colour) I commented on the colour of the away team and said it was a really lovely colour. They're going to see if they can get me a shirt. (Really low league stuff and you can't just order one online)

Eightiesgirl · 24/10/2022 12:59

@mamabear715 I've recently made friends with a neighbour, so that's helped ease the loneliness. When you lose family, I think friends become more important and actually become like family. Thanks for asking, your kindness has made my day!

Compulsoryvegetables · 24/10/2022 13:14

Every day, when I’m waiting to collect my kids from school, I see another mum waiting. Her son is always one of the first to appear, and whenever she sees him coming her face lights up into a beautiful smile. Without fail.

This brings me joy every day

ScoobyDoNot · 24/10/2022 13:20

A pair of docs I've been after for aaaages but were always sold out in my size popped up on Vinted this morning. Brand new and almost half the rrp.
I don't get paid until tomorrow so my lovely, fantastic, best husband ever bought them for me!!
I had to take my agitation meds to calm down! (I have bipolar and going through a bit of a hypomanic phase)

mamabear715 · 24/10/2022 17:33

@Eightiesgirl Ah, bless you! x
