Faking positive covid test

Just wondering if any of you have ever actually faked a positive covid test. Reading the thread about the monster cold got me thinking. You get so much more sympathy and understanding if it's covid rather than 'just' a cold.

For work? If you’re too ill for work it doesn’t matter if it’s Covid or another virus, does it.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 22/10/2022 13:37

Er no. Psychopath behaviour

There's something wrong with people who fake illness for sympathy and understanding.

I haven’t, no. But I wouldn’t judge someone whose work had an unfair sickness policy that meant they were going to get penalised for time off for a heavy cold but not for covid.
Hate the game and not the player and all that!

dontgobaconmyheart · 22/10/2022 13:47

Do you? I'd have thought if the people in your life were invested in you sufficiently you would get it either way if you were feeling ill and needed help in some way, otherwise presumably it has mild symptoms or the same as a bad cold and is rubbish but something we all deal with at some point.

Given that you no longer have to isolate as a rule if you have it (not suggesting I think this is ideal) then I can't see why you would ever be showing other people a test you did, fake or not. If you are too unwell for work you can self certify for the first week regardless of the cause.

People who post their positive tests on social media strike me as very odd, it wouldn't occur to me that those might be fake but if that were the case I just think I'd be more worried about what's going on in their life and state of mind than anything else.

She’s not talking about faking the illness, just the name of it!

I’ve got a horrid virus/cold thing that’s making me ache all over, sore throat, headache, mouth ulcers etc but covid tests keep showing negative. I almost wish it were covid so that I don’t sound so weak having to call into work with a non specific cold/virus/illness.

I''m sorry, i should also say i hope you are feeling better soon.

Just say it's covid. They aren't going to see a picture of the test are they?

Essexgirlupnorth · 22/10/2022 13:58

I work for the NHS and COVID absence didn't used to count against your sickness record but now it does so no longer any point to fake a COVID test.

If you are too sick to work it doesn't matter if it is COVID of something else

StillNotWarm · 22/10/2022 17:22

Yes, I tried to. Not for use for me, but to see if the orange juice rumours floating round actually worked, and kids at school were faking it or not. I didn't get it to work.

TidyDancer · 22/10/2022 17:26

It works with Diet Coke. I tried it out of curiosity.

Chickenpeppers · 22/10/2022 17:48

A few people at worked faked them just before the end of self-isolation restrictions so they'd get time off before the restrictions ending meant you had to come in anyway. All we had to do was send a picture of our positive test to HR. I know one colleague used lemon juice which worked, not sure about other methods.

SeemingOKToday · 22/10/2022 18:50

No but DH did and so did dozens of people he worked with back last year. Ten days off with full pay whilst isolating and not recorded on your sickness record.

DH only did it once but several of his colleagues had 'had Covid' 6 or 8 times by the end of 2021 and nothing the company could do about it as it was their own (multinational) policy.

x2boys · 22/10/2022 18:55

Why would people do this now ?
There's no requirement to even test now
I have a cough right now it might well be covid or another virus ,does it matter?

feeona123 · 22/10/2022 19:17

My son tried to to get out of school! 🤣

Some workplaces, including mine still require 5 days of self isolation.

That is so dishonest

I always think it would come back to you on the bum when you were really I'll rather than faking COVID or were they ill anyway

SeemingOKToday · 22/10/2022 20:06

@woodhill no, not genuinely ill. Just enjoying 10 days off work at home.

DH gave many, many free hours to the place and they massively took the piss in lots of ways - so morally, when he did it, I was OK with it. I think I might have says 'fuck them, do it' at the time 😂. He no longer works there.

The people who did it multiple times must have had nerves of steel as it was patently obvious to everyone that you didn't catch covid once every 6 weeks for a whole year!

ThisIsNotThePostYourLookingFor · 22/10/2022 20:10

I haven’t personally but it’s very easily done. You simply put in your LFT code and pick either pos or neg. That automates a generic email saying you are pos or neg. Nobody ever wants to see the actual LFT🤷🏻‍♀️ (I record this for people in my work and realised about 4 months ago)

This is the case at my work. I'd rather have covid than a cold that makes me too ill to work because they are woefully understaffed so kick up a stink but it's also a place where you can't work with covid.

NoyesDontknow · 22/10/2022 20:47

I did on dh behalf so that he couldn’t go to his grandmothers funeral after MIL verbally attacked me. She was hateful the day before so on the morning I sent a pic of an old test and said ‘sorry can’t make it we have covid’
