Stuck in Alice Springs

Any Aussie MNetters have any idea how me and DH can get to Uluru today?

We had a transfer booked via our travel agent for 6.25 this morning but unbeknown to us this was changed to a 5.45am pick up. No comms at all from the travel agent to let us know of this change. To say I'm cross is an understatement.

We may be able to go tomorrow, but it looks like there is one transfer a day which is fully booked so not even sure that is an option. I'm waiting for the transfer people to call me back,

In the meantime, does anyone local or familiar with the area know if there are any other options at all? Flights are not available until Monday. We are on a once in a lifetime trip and Uluru was the highlight of our trip, with a sunset bbq arranged for tomorrow night. We were only meshtvyo be there for two nights and it looks like it might be only one now :(

Maybe check out greyhound buses, or tourist info as soon as they open!

JohnsShirt · 22/10/2022 00:14

.gosh I've no idea, I did it as a tour but it was 20 odd years ago.

@chipsandpeas we used Freedom Destinations and everything (or so we thought!) was booked and confirmed. All had been ok so far, bar a few admin errors which I picked up before I left the UK. Maybe that was an omen though!

The tour provider has now rebooked us tomorrow, but we are now only at Uluru for one night instead of two which is a bit gutting.

Safe to say I will be expecting some compensation from Freedom as I've now had to pay for an extra night here and have lost a night at Uluru.

Hire a car and drive? It's only 5 hours.

Doona · 22/10/2022 00:43

Thrifty maybe.

MissTrip82 · 22/10/2022 00:44

Yeah I’d hire a car.

MrsMigginsCat · 22/10/2022 04:26

We've managed to get rebooked tomorrow now and luckily the hotel we are at could accommodate us for another night. We've missed a day in Uluru and I will be taking it up with the travel agent, but for the moment we're sorted although I won't be happy until we are on the bus in the morning,

Another here who would have immediately looked to hire a car and then later taken it up with booking company to get car hire refunded due to their stuff up. It’s only 5 odd hours so if you hired a car around 9am, you would have been there around 3pm given there are two of you to share the driving, could be done easily with toilet breaks only (I’m Aussie and it would be our go to even other options as a bus or flight is our definition of hell on earth you wouldn’t contemplate for that distance). Then you would have had the two nights.

We had a fantastic trip to Uluru years ago. Hired a motorhome from Darwin and drove down stopping off at some fantastic places. Best holiday ever.

I hope you get to Uluru. Get back to us and tell us about the Field of Light, too.
