I have a 9 year old
Is this worth going to? What's it like and how long do you stay there?
Do you have to book and if so, can you book on the day?

You need to book but it’s free. Lots of half term activities over the next week

The tech and media one?

Went a few years ago.. before covid
To be honest my kids were prob too young. Decent enough for a few hours though

There's a room.of old video games...i have an adult mate that can spend
hours there
I think an exhibition in the dev of photography/ print/ cinema... some interactive stuff... Hall of mirrors?
A picnic room....There was a room of experiments I think...

Prob depends on your 9yr old / family interests. We're not massively in to video games etc. We don't own a consol. It's not on our radar...so we kind of swpt over that bit. But if its your kid's thing it could be really intersdtunv to experience how it was before!

Sorry can't help on booking now...

We had a good ( and I think, free? ) Day out !

I love it there! Used to work there in the days when it was the National Museum of photography, Film and Television. Happy days ...

But anyway ... I took my 9yo there last year and we had a fab day.

InDubiousBattle · 21/10/2022 21:59

The Wonder lab is pretty good and it's overall worth a visit. You do have to book but it's free. You have to book the games lounge in addition to the museum and it's £2 per person. We tend to book the museum, the games lounge and see a film at the cinema to make a proper trip.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2022 22:01

Ok 2 positive, one not so.
(My child has a DS although she isn't into computer games on the whole she never plays it here. I didn't buy it for her)

W are off to the theatre so wondered if it was worth fitting something else in while we're there?

If you're not sure about the museum, how about the skating rink behind it? (If it's still there?!)

InDubiousBattle · 21/10/2022 22:04

If you're going to the Alhambra and have an hour to kill then it's worth a look as it's more or less next door.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2022 22:12

Does anyone know any cafes or restaurants near?
Not expensive.
I don't know Bradford

Depending on the time of day your going through cake ole in city park is amazing.
media and science museum is great. But we haven’t been there for a while. Have seen that there are extra activities for half term.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2022 22:19

It says time slots 3-4? For example? Does that mean it takes an hour to go round or is that not what that means?

I'm not sure what the current exhibition is but even with the stuff that's there all the time we could easily do 2-3 hours. My DC are 10, 8 & 7 and we probably go a couple of times a year as it's a 40 minute train ride from us and free! We don't pay for the video games bit as I would never get them out of there.

purpleme12 · 21/10/2022 22:21

@Idontgiveagriffindamn thank you for the suggestion. What kind of food does this do?
Is there a playground/what kind of park is it?

The Broadway shopping centre is about 5 minutes walk from the Alhambra and the Media Museum, they've got a food court. I'm not sure what exactly they've got but have a Google as it's very convenient

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 22/10/2022 06:03

Essentially it’s cake and paninis / sandwiches but the cake is brilliant and the whole place is very quirky.
city park isn’t really a park. It’s a square with lots of fountains. If you were there on a hot day I’d say take a towel and change of clothes - my kids love to play in the fountains. Depending on which day you’re going there can be food stalls around the square.

Hillrunning · 22/10/2022 06:09

We love it. Recently spent 3.5 hours there with a 3 year old. We only got round 3 floors. It's free but they are quite pushy about a suggested £5 donatio. Across the road are some water fountains that children often play in and a few cheap restaurants such as nandos and a witherspoon. Also the cake ole is nice

The hour time slot is the hour in which you can arrive not how long you can stay.

Waveacrossabay · 22/10/2022 06:13

Have you considered going to eureka! ? That's a brilliant place for kids it's a 20 min drive from Bradford

NannyR · 22/10/2022 06:23

Depending on what you want to eat: there is a nandos and Starbucks in city park, there's a pizza express and a few other cafe type places on Broadway and a food court inside the shopping centre. Cake ole is nice for sandwiches a

JarvisSprocker · 22/10/2022 06:44

Sorry to jump on, is it any good for a science mad 4 year old?
