What makes you religious?

We're you born into a religious family and it's habit more than anything? Did you find religion during a dark time? Maybe you had a calling?

I just wondered how people find faith and grow that deep belief in a God. I wish I had a faith - I think life must be better to believe and feel the love of God but I don't 'feel' it.

@PeacockMansion "I think life must be better to believe"

Why?

Absolutely not religious, at all
Never lost faith just never had it.ever. As a child I know it was a made up affectation
Grew up immersed in religion and religious household

I was brought up catholic. From a young age, I hated the church. I went to a catholic school, I argued my way though it. I hated them and what they stood for. All they seemed to want was money, they were all judgemental and didn’t seem to want to help anyone. That was the opposite of what Jesus stood for for me.

I believe deeply in God, but I don’t believe in any religion, my personal view is that organised religions are just another form of control.

But I’ve always believed in God, the words of the bible and Jesus. I just don’t believe that I have to go to a church and be preached at.

I'm an atheist and that is what gives me comfort and security, but if you are seeking faith maybe you should explore that. I have a good friend who was brought up Catholic, walked away from that and is now a Quaker - she's found a deep connection with God without having all the rigmarole of organised religion. Maybe that's something you could look into.
