It's really upsetting me because she's not been able to sleep and is really bunged up with a cough. It seems like nothing is working!!!

It's unlikely the nasal flu would have caused this, it's likely just very bad coincidence.

When the healthcare professional administered the spray, did they ask whether the patient was fit and well today (or words do that effect?)

heartbroken22 · 20/10/2022 15:07

I'm not sure as it was given in school

Ah I didn't think of that, I administer them but in clinic setting.

How's your DC @heartbroken22?

My DD had the nasal flu vaccine for the first time last week. She is very rarely ill and when she is it normally only lasts a day or two. Two days after the vaccine she developed a temperature ( I can't remember the last time she did have a temperature) I didn't think much at first as it did say it can be a side effect although should be mild. Well we are now on day 4 and she is still unwell not herself at all with a high temperature. It could well be a coincidence but it is making me question if I want to get it done next year

heartbroken22 · 28/10/2022 01:20

I took her to a and e as the cough was every second and the doctor gave me antibiotics which have helped! He said he's had to give a lot of antibiotics to kids this month. Reading your comment has made think twice about giving her the flu jab.

If your child's illness is responding to the antibiotics, it isn't related to the flu vaccine. It's a coincidence that she is unwell after the vaccine.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 28/10/2022 01:40

My youngest had it and the day later he was bedridden and off school for three days.

His brothers also were, and then I came down with it also.

There’s a particularly nasty virus doing the rounds, there’s even a thread about it.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 28/10/2022 01:43

My husband got the flue jab a few days ago and he felt utterly shit even today.

His manager got the flu jab this morning and again, he said he felt rotten.

I have my 3yr old booked to get the vaccine but now I'm really reconsidering

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 28/10/2022 06:47

Well myself,DH and teen DD had it last week and didn't feel any after effects in the slightest!

Wheretheskyisblue · 28/10/2022 06:52

The basal flu spray is a live vaccine for children so is more likely to produce side effects than the one given to adults. My 3 year old had a bad cold after which went to his chest, hard to no if it is a coincidence or not.

Wheretheskyisblue · 28/10/2022 06:53

*nasal

So that means that someone else won't get ill from it?!

Yogagrandmum · 28/10/2022 07:05

I believe feeling ill from a jab was the body developing immunity offering a larger percentage of protection from a virus which could make you very sick

SellingFairytales · 28/10/2022 07:09

So that means that someone else won't get ill from it?!

How come you aren't picking up on the three previous posters anecdotal evidence?

Nursemumma92 · 28/10/2022 07:13

Hope your DD feels better soon, but if she is feeling better from antibiotics, this won't have been caused by flu vaccine.

KangarooKenny · 28/10/2022 07:15

The nasal flu spray is a live vaccine, but it is attenuated - weakened.
There are lots of bugs around at the moment, many children off school, and those in school with snotty noses.
There are potential side effects from any vaccination, and those are easily found on the internet, or are sent home/emailed after the vaccine is given.

Numbat2022 · 28/10/2022 07:27

My son was meant to have his flu spray today. He's not, because he's had a really nasty virus all week with high fever and is on antibiotics for a chest infection.

Pre-schoolers get sick all the time, it's most likely a coincidence.

Nothingbuttheglory · 28/10/2022 07:33

Having a high temp from a vaccine for a couple of days is infinitely better than ending up in ITU due to actual flu. This year's flu season is predicted to be particularly nasty and everyone who can is urged to get vaccinated.

I had my flu jab a couple of weeks ago and was fine.

Nothingbuttheglory · 28/10/2022 07:34

three previous posters anecdotal evidence?

@SellingFairytales apt username. There is no such thing as anecdotal evidence and a sample size of 3 is meaningless.

DirtyBlonde · 28/10/2022 07:37

The CDC list of side effects includes both runny nose (common), cough (rarer, usually older recipients) plus wheezing, headache, vomiting, muscle aches, fever, sore throat (usually younger recipients)

So yes, this could be side effects.

Treat to relieve the symptoms and I hope she feels better soon.

Way better than having full on flu

MrsMorrisey · 28/10/2022 07:39

I'm not singling anyone out.
I'm surprised that people say " I had it and I'm fine"
It means nothing to the person who is ill.
It is possible that something can make one person ill and the other not.

SellingFairytales · 28/10/2022 07:40

I got if from Sunak's take on Truss's policies.

My point was why pick up on one poster saying what happened to her when three other people had said their children were unwell. How come only negative anecdotes are allowed?

I already know that there is no such thing as anecdotal evidence and that a sample size of three is of no consequence as I'm not thick.

Crunchymum · 28/10/2022 07:45

Lots of bugs going about.

Could just be coincidence. We've not had ours yet and half DC2 class were down with a horrid - non Covid virus - before half term.

Crunchymum · 28/10/2022 07:46

Just to clarify the school hasn't yet done the nasal spray. Will be after half term.

Herejustforthisone · 28/10/2022 07:46

Exactly this.

The nasal flu jab is a live vaccine and can make some kids a bit unwell for a short time. But, it’s viral.

Your child likely just caught something at the same time. However, it could of course be an illusion that the ABX are helping, it could just be it was viral and it’s run its course.
