Anyone else feel like we are living in an episode of The Thick of It right now?

I was just watching an episode and what’s happening in real life is madder than the fictional, exaggerated version.

if all this appeared in a series, I’d be saying to DH, nah they’ve pushed it too far now, it just isn’t believable anymore…

If only it was as funny! They do say life imitates art but this is brutal.

PortiasBiscuit · 20/10/2022 14:45

Only this really is NOT funny!

I felt we were living in The Thick of It for about ten years.

I heard Iannuci stopped writing it because it got so bad it was impossible to satirise. Life was more ridiculous, self-serving and awful than anything he could dream up.

Armando Iannucci is predicting Gove as replacement. Be afraid…

Funnily enough that's exactly the conclusion I came to while the events unfolded. Spinners a losers is one of my favourite episodes.

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/10/2022 14:50

No because the Thick of It didn’t have such disastrous consequences for the public, the whole point was that DOSAC was a show department with hardly any power and a consolation prize for failed ‘proper’ ministers.

I don’t find any of this funny anymore, if I ever did.

SpentDandelion · 20/10/2022 14:54

No, my at all because l have the sense not to get involved in it all. Everything comes and everything goes, l don't react to it, there is no better saying than Keep Calm and Carry On in my opinion. Media uses fear to their advantage that's why never any positive news, yet positive things are still happening.

Itstheimplication · 20/10/2022 15:31

Oh I'm not saying I find any of this funny at all - I just mean, if these events were in the show we'd think it had gone too far.
It's anything BUT funny. I dread seeing the news each day.

And as for Gove as a replacement...I keep thinking things can't possibly get worse and then...

Also heard Boris is in the running for leadership again? You couldn't make it up genuinely.

I saw a tweet comparing Truss to Robyn and now that’s all I can see!

tuttifruit · 20/10/2022 15:43

Yes this keeps reminding me of that show

Itstheimplication · 20/10/2022 15:46

@tuttifruit oh god YES

It's fabulous - I'd love to hear what Malcolm Tucker thinks! 😂
