Pumpkin patches

Are pumpkin patches actually worth it? I’m in the south west of UK and there is one near us and DH would like to take the children. Are they actually any good, or is it best just to get a supermarket one? I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch (I’ve seen American pics of them) but I guess it could add to the halloween festivities?

It's only £2 per adult and free for under 16s where we go.

They grow their own pumpkins and do a lovely range of pumpkins and winter squash, we get a few for decorating and then I roast them and freeze the flesh for soups, so no waste. They have a pop up cafe with lovely pumpkin cake, face painting and rides, it's a lovely afternoon out.

I think it depends if you like getting outdoors with the dc and want to do something seasonal. If it's purely about getting a carving pumpkin/ the finances then skip, if you like getting out, somewhere seasonal/different to usual old park, it's usually a good morning out I find. Wheelbarrow rides, food, crafts etc.

you will pay over the odds, but the two I've been to have an amazing array of different pumpkins, and we like the searching/colours, etc. we decorate the house with them then eat them through November. Avoid the green ones if you want them to last, go for silver ones or squash.

That is insane how can they justify that price?

I went once and DS chose a massive pumpkin it was 16 quid and the smaller ones were £4-£6. It rotted before halloween. Now I buy £1 ones from the supermarket.
