Anybody else gave this annoying phlegmy hacking cough?

All four of us ( me, DH, ds3 and baby 11 months) are hacking our lungs up. It's horrible and lasting forever.
No other symptoms just this bloody cough.

Yes, DH has it. We can’t figure out where he’s picked it up, I’m fine and generally pick up every bug from my 3yo DGS, he’s fine though.

This was one of the symptoms of covid which my husband had 2 weeks ago. I tested him because of the awful hacking cough, which he was having to spit stuff out, and he tested positive.

I wonder what "forever" means for you, OP? I've had a hacking phlegmy cough since the beginning of the year. It started as a normal cough and then just didn't stop. I am way beyond the end of my tether with it. Numerous tests, various medications, inhalers etc. Oh well, another appointment with the consultant tomorrow. Hope burns eternal.

I truly hope your forever cough is much, much shorter! And so awful for the little ones to have this.

Yup. On 4th course of antibiotics and second course of steroids. Feel dreadful

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/10/2022 18:06

@SophieJo no it's not covid we have tested a few times in the last couple of weeks.

@FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies oh god that's awful. Much shorter for us but it feels so long. I think my son has had a bad cough for a month and so when we started to get it I was sure it hadn't come from him, but maybe it has as his has really gotten even worse in the last two weeks.
It's the baby I feel really sorry for, he can't get the phlegm up. Any time I try to BF him he is coughing leading to vomiting. It's awful
Both boys sleep in my bed and we keep waking each other up with the coughs.
Sometimes I try to feed baby to sleep and I feel the tickle in my tbriand I try to breathe so it won't aggravate it more but inevitably it comes and I can't not cough.
So fed up!

I feel so sorry for you though and I hope you get it figured out soon. Could it be acid reflux causing a cough? Maybe a hiatus hernia?

Oh jeez, that's terrible!
I did wonder if maybe the little ones would need antibiotics but actually the baby just had antibiotics for an ear infection so I'm surprised he has been so floored by this. Although I guess if it's a viral infection antibiotics won't touch it. Hmm
Hope you feel better soon!

cough which is now a sinus infection with post nasal drip. Been ill for two weeks and not getting better. Feel like crap.

MirandaWest · 19/10/2022 18:46

DH has a similar sounding cough - he’s tested for covid and has tested negative more than once. Am hoping it clears Jo soon as he and I both work from home in the same room (is large enough that he doesn’t cough near me but is annoying!)

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 19/10/2022 18:51

Consultant thought it was acid reflux as I have a small hiatus hernia, and I have been taking the appropriate meds (and have completely given up alcohol) for three weeks. Hasn't made the slightest difference. I think it's post nasal drip. Anyway, thank you for your support. I hope everyone gets sorted out soon.

daisyjgrey · 19/10/2022 19:33

Try the Benylin chesty cough tablets. They're the only thing that stops me coughing, and it seems to break the cycle of trigger coughing.

kegofcoffee · 19/10/2022 20:10

Yes, my 1 year old DD has had it for coming on 3 weeks. And if anything she's got worse of the pst couple of days

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 20/10/2022 08:12

@kegofcoffee yes we had a bad night and baby seems even worse this morning. It's been chaos. Two nights ago I got three hours sleep and I was shattered last night, but then both boys were super Ill and I've had even less sleep now.
It's my birthday and we are all ill and even worse so today. :(
What I'm finding is the phlegm is super sticky and very very difficult to come up. Bleh

Urgh yea, annoying sinus issues and horrible hacking cough. DP and DD were both snotty a month or so ago; then I got it but have been left with the horrible cough. Not covid as when we were all ill we tested for the covid study we’ve been doing and that came back negative:
