Which expensive designer hoodie for a 10 year old girl?

And before everyone jumps on me, I'm writing a children's book and need to feature an expensive piece of clothing which then gets ruined Grin

I have no idea about what a ten year old girl may like these days, as my youngest is now 20. Does anyone have any suggestions please? TIA.

I don't know about designer but my DD(10)'s pride and joy is her Next Pokemon hoodie. And after that her sparkly DM boots.

Minkymandy · 19/10/2022 12:21

All DD11's friends have Jack Will's hoodies. She does not 😆

BlackCatTabbyCat · 19/10/2022 12:25

My 10 year old is currently asking for a Nike Tech fleece and it seems all her friends have one or want one too. They are always sold out so really popular at the moment.

Thanks for those suggestions. I must say I'd love a Pokemon hoodie and sparkly DMs! Jack Wills might be a good one. The idea is that the mum has bought it and is being very precious about it because of the cost. Mum is a bit shallow and spends money on stuff for her daughter to make up for her always being at work.

The trouble is if you name a brand in a couple of years it will be out of fashion and your book will be dated.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 19/10/2022 12:32

Mentioning any brand name will really date your book, so I wouldn’t advise it.
It depends where you live, but we don’t have a Jack Wills around here any more and it’s definitely not the most current. Fashion conscious 10 year olds would go for Hollister, or Urban Outfitters.

SurlejTiger · 19/10/2022 12:33

The idea is that the mum has bought it and is being very precious about it because of the cost.
Then shouldn't it be something the mum thinks is posh rather than something a 10 year old would want?

Saisong · 19/10/2022 12:41

I'd go for something more top end designer, that might give it a longer shelf life - Gucci, Prada etc. I'm sure many of them do ridiculously expensive kids clothes. Otherwise choose a foreign brand name that just sounds expensive.

Just had a look. The mind boggles: www.gucci.com/uk/en_gb/pr/children/girl/girl-clothing-4-12-years/sweatshirts-for-girl/childrens-gucci-logo-print-sweatshirt-p-611220XJCP45199?gclid=a7092062c5a718eb119b432d278d2408&gclsrc=3p.ds&msclkid=a7092062c5a718eb119b432d278d2408

Hollister, pull & bear, Jack wills, fila are all brands dd wears. She's older but (alas) sucked in by brands

BlueThursday · 19/10/2022 12:51

My sister in laws kids wear these. DD still appreciates Primark thank goodness 😅

I totally mistyped; it’s her nieces; she has no kids 🤣

latenightpartyrings · 19/10/2022 12:56

Just make up your own brand which is mentioned somewhere beforehand to make it clear how desirable(?)/expensive it is.

QuietYou · 19/10/2022 12:58

I'd go for Gucci although I don't actually know any children who wear it. My 10 year old has randomly mentioned Gucci sliders for Christmas.

Most of the kids round here wear Nike, Adidas, The NorthFace, Berghaus.

Jack Wills and Hollister are parent brands in these parts.

Meadowbreeze · 19/10/2022 12:58

I agree, don't mention a brand. Maybe a fancy cashmere jumper or a priceless heirloom. Something that doesn't date.

ChakaKhanfan · 19/10/2022 12:59

I don’t think Nike or Adidas would age the book. They are always going to exist. Maybe it could be Stella McCartney for Adidas or Gucci X North Face hoodie?

ManyManyBiscuits · 19/10/2022 13:00

My DD aged 13 used all her birthday money to buy a Juicy Couture hoody which had the double whammy of being stupidly expensive and also horribly tacky looking. And then she didn't bloody wear it.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 19/10/2022 13:42

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Good point that the brand may date.

Not a fan of made-up brands, so maybe will just make it unbranded but have the mum drop in the price at some point.

Will definitely include MNers in the acknowledgements if when it's published!

Off the back of another thread, I googled James Corden's wife, and in the article I read she was pictured wearing a Celine hoodie... a snip at £750.

Beezknees · 19/10/2022 15:32

Designer brands like Gucci never date.

starlingdarling · 19/10/2022 16:01

Christian Dior do children's clothes. I still remember my shock when I became a nanny and realised the 2 year old had a baby Dior cardigan. The mum worked for a different fashion brand so I assumed it was her but after getting to know her it turns out she liked the mid-range brands and the designer clothes were always gifts.

Zarzuela · 19/10/2022 16:03

I agree with others about a brand dating.
My DD has a couple of precious hoodies that would be hard to replace - one from a place we visited far away that we would never go again, one that is merch from a book series she loved that cost £££. So maybe those give you ideas for a different tack.

Shitfather · 19/10/2022 16:13

Kenzo

Goldmember · 19/10/2022 16:16

My DDs got Mr Beast hoodies one Xmas, way too much £ if you ask me but they love them.
