I'm sure that when I was growing up local news reporting often had a 'good news' story at the end of the broadcast. I was saying to DH we could do with something similar now, even if it were just an owner andlost pet being reunited or something. He says it never happened and that good news stories were only a 'thing' to cheer people up during the war.

We are in our late 30's so obvs. not alive during the war. Am I misremembering?

I remember a lighthearted, silly story at the end of the news. Stuff like cats up trees that jump down when the fire brigade get up there or talking dogs etc

Definitely. It was the 'And Finally' bit at the end of the 10pm news.

Definitely remember this all through the 90s and maybe 00s. Lately I don't watch it as much and tend to follow online so wouldn't know. But yes, always a fun animal story, triumphant charity event or some such to offset broader scale tragedy.

Yes it was definitely a thing! I remember it from the 70s and possibly 80s.

In an ideal world it would all be like John Craven's Newsround used to be.

Yep. At the end of the ten o'clock news the newsreader would say..."and finally..." and there would be some story about cats or something

Yes I remember laughing my head off when a friend of mine did an item on local BBC news about whether peoples ears got bigger as they age. Years of training and it had come to that!
