Sorry for the long story, but I don't want to drip feed.

My prepay electric meter isn't working, and won't accept the £10 I have on it, I don't know if it's the meter or the key. I have about £2 left of my emergency.
I've been trying to call EDF OOH emergency line since 7pm when I got home from work, but the line is constantly busy, I've called more than 100 times! I've also sent them a WhatsApp, which replies that they try to answer within 12 hours.
Now I'm pretty sure than it won't go off before morning, but here's the thing. I have work at 10am tomorrow and I need to get this sorted. I'm new though, I've been there about 7 weeks, so I don't want them to think I'm a pisstaker, but I think they already know I'm a grafter.

What do I do?? Ring the absence line and tell them I need the day off? Or risk being able to speak to EDF within 10 mins of them opening in the morning?

Aaarrrgghhhh. So stressful. Tell me what to do please 🙈

Do you need a day off to sort it? For example I could ring them from work?

PickAnyName · 18/10/2022 22:18

Have you tried contacting them via Twitter? That sometimes works — did with me for the Water Board.

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:19

No, I work in a call centre environment. Can't even have my phone on me. It's decent as far as call centres go, but I couldn't be trying to ring someone loads of times.

Yes, I've tweeted them, and sent a WhatsApp explanation to the chat thing. But the message says it might take 12 hours for a response.

Is there a contact form online that you can use to email them? Are you able to access email at work, if not have your phone on you?

LIZS · 18/10/2022 22:20

Why take the day off? They should reply to your message before then and it may be straightforward to resolve. If not can't it wait u til later in the day as you won't need electricity while you are at work.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/10/2022 22:21

Ah ok. I still don't think I'd take the day off.

luckyRhino · 18/10/2022 22:22

I wouldn't book the day off. Hopefully by the morning they will have replied to you and it all be sorted.
Do you get a long lunch break where you can call them if need be?

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:23

No, there's no email, that I can find, and the emergency line is still engaged even now. I don't even think anyone's manning it!

My son is here all day tomorrow, it's his college day off.

I honestly don't want the day off, I really like it. I'm just stuck!

I get 10 mins at 1200, half an hour at 1400, and 10 mins at 1600. That's it. It's just difficult when you need to sort stuff.

Can your son ring?

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:26

I would love to say yes to that, but I can't trust him to keep on it.

I wouldn’t take the day off , just call
on your breaks

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:27

I'm just going to have to get on the phone at 8am and hope for the best!

Have you followed the suggestions on the EDF website?

Hellllp please
ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:32

Yes, I've honestly done all of the things. There isn't an error message, and it says token accepted - which it isn't, and it never says that usually anyway. It's frustrating because I don't know where the fault is.

If your son is at college then he's old enough to deal with it....... I'm sure he'll stick with it if he realises his computer/PlayStation ect power will run out soon😕

SheilaWilde · 18/10/2022 22:45

Have you tried entering the UTRN code from your receipt manually?

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 22:59

It's fixed!! 😁😁
The live chat thingy replied and gave me a code to put in and it sprang to life. What a relief. I can sleep now! Waste of a bloody evening.

He would have had to have done it in the end, but he'd have been pretty useless. Glad it didn't come to that 😁

Just as a heads up, I contacted edf via WhatsApp on Thursday and they didn’t reply until monday!

ComeOnThenFanny · 18/10/2022 23:10

Honest to god, I think I just struck lucky. They are so rubbish, they all are.
