Is my car cheaper to heat than my house?

Like everyone I’m trying to avoid putting the central heating on.

tonight I drove to my nearest supermarket - six miles round trip - and my car was super toasty.

I get 70mpg, which makes me wonder if it is actually cheaper to go for a drive than out on my central heating!

Doubt it - the insulation on your car is shit.

Hellocatshome · 18/10/2022 20:32

Car insulation is crap you would have yo keep the car running all the time. Plus there is no point getting nice and warm and then going back into your cold house to sleep.

Petrol is expensive and cars aren't well-insulated so no. However it's a very small space to heat and if you did it for a short time just to warm up, maybe. You'd be better with electric blankets or hot water bottles under covers.

If you're going somewhere then it's next to nothing to heat the car, but think how fast it cools down once you turn off the ignition. It's not well insulated so you'd have to keep the engine on.

True, all good points. But the journey felt great!
