I was driving along a narrow country lane this morning. I wasn’t going fast, but tbh ought to have been going slower due to the fact it was a bit wet. I rounded a bend and there about 30m in front of me was a horse. I slammed my foot on the break. Ordinarily my car would have stopped, but it just skidded and didn’t even slow down. To avoid the horse, I drove into a post and rail fence. Nobody is hurt (the car, however, looks like an eye sore!), but I’m very shaken and freaked out by the fact that my car just didn’t even slow down when I slammed my foot on the break. Has anyone had any similar near misses?

That must have been a fright. It could be several reasons why your car skidded. Wet leaves, ABS failed or misjudgement of stopping distances.

That must've been really scary for you!! Just wanted to come on to say look after yourself and also what a lovely woman you are to choose driving into a post to avoid hurting an animal.

Terrifying for you and for the horse / rider. Hope
you’re ok. Live rurally and often come across horses around blind blends. Still startle me sometimes even when I’m going slowly!

On a practical note, get your tyres checked. They might need replacing. If you drive a RWD, you’re much more likely to skid in the rain. DH has a beemer and it’s a nightmare in the rain / snow.
