I always loved it; but it is so, so, “of the moment” as Armando Iannucci might write. It is definitely worth watching as events unravel in real time down at Westminster.

Where is it available to watch? I've seen loads of clips recently and was thinking of giving it a try

Annclare88 · 16/10/2022 18:52

I've been thinking about rewatching it too. I can almost see (and hear) Malcolm Tucker's meltdown in the last couple of weeks.😂

stravagante · 16/10/2022 18:53

I'm rewatching all of Drop the Dead Donkey. Change the names and it could be written today.

CormoranStrike · 16/10/2022 19:12

Amazon for series one certainly.

where can I watch Donkey @stravagante ?

I find the first series cringeworthy due to the main guys offences with young girls especially when he makes a joke about disgraced geography teachers. But love the rest of it. Peter manyan is amazing 😍

Hbh17 · 16/10/2022 19:15

The Thick of It is fabulous, but series 3 is when it reaches true perfection. Malcolm Tucker is a genius!

Yes, I have to actively zone him out.

my real praise was for the first ten minutes where Malcolm sacked the minister.

Thank you. I'll have a look for it

CormoranStrike · 16/10/2022 19:21

And now I have slipped to series three!

I rewatched it a couple of years ago with DS, and loved it just as much second time around. DS loved it too, particularly Tom Hollander as 'The Fucker' Hmm

Im not sure it would be possible to make it today though, what do you think?

Violettaa · 16/10/2022 19:32

DH and I regularly use ‘Fuckerty Bye’ or ‘Fuck off, Oxbridge’ as standard ways of saying goodbye. We have to actively try not to do it around DD.

SequinsandStilettos · 16/10/2022 19:33

Do you mean Chris Langham?
On 2 August 2007, Langham was found guilty of 15 charges of downloading and possessing level 5 child sexual abuse images and videos. Langham was jailed for 10 months, reduced to 6 months on appeal.
Before sentencing, the judge said that "some of the children viewed are clearly prepubescent... The worst video was 15 minutes long and it showed in quite graphic detail the sadistic brutalisation of an eight-year-old girl in the UK, with some serious sexual offences against her".
During his trial, he was also accused of having sex with an under-age girl in upmarket hotels, his West End dressing room, his car, and his home. The accuser claimed this had started when she was 14 years old. Langham denied the charges and claimed he had only had sex with her when she was 18. He was found not guilty of six counts of indecent assault and two counts of buggery between January 1996 and April 2000.

I know he said he was abused aged 8, and that he served his time, but I cannot watch him on screen anymore.

Sorry OP. Did not mean to derail or deny you the pleasure of something you get joy from Flowers Lord knows, we all need to get laughter where we can.
Do you recommend Veep? Is that as good?

OneFrenchEgg · 17/10/2022 18:51

Is Langham the one that said it was for research purposes? Off to Google

Hugasauras · 17/10/2022 18:53

I regularly rewatch it. It's a masterpiece.

'Get your feet off the furniture you Oxbridge twat. You're not on a punt now.' Grin

OneFrenchEgg · 17/10/2022 18:55

Oh yes I've just googled and got furious again. I don't believe the judge would have been so sure if it was Joe Bloggs 'researching'

He told the court that he had been looking at the videos to help him understand his own past, and as research for a character in his psychotherapy comedy Help!

The judge said: “Paedophilia is not an issue in this case. You are not a sexual predator.” But a senior policeman ignored the ruling and told reporters outside the court that he still thought Langham was a paedophile.
