Glasses prescription help please

My daughter has just come back from the opticians saying she has been told she needs glasses. She has always had perfect vision prior to this.

This seems such a small adjustment to me. Am I missing something?

Google ‘how you see with astigmatism’ and look at the images. Things will be clearer with glasses for her.

It is a small prescription for astigmatism but prescribing glasses totally depends on the symptoms she has reported. If she's reporting eye strain or blur sometimes with concentrated visual tasks then often the optician will try glasses to see if they help. Her overall prescription may also be higher, but made into a smaller one to help her get used to glasses for the first time or with allowance for this amount being the excess above what her eyes can cope with. Sometimes it can depend on how the eye muscles work together as well. The only way you will know is by asking the optician who tested her eyes.

Thank you both. I have astigmatism in both eyes but a strong prescription to go along with it. Have worn glasses for years.
Your explanations make sense. She made the appointment due to headaches.
Will arrange to help her pick out some frames 🙂
