Does anyone remember an oblong shaped butterscotch sweet in a gold wrapper in the 70/80’s ? It looked a bit like a butter portion.

I do!!! The foil was a bit textured??

Damned if I can remember what they were called or who made them

KangarooKenny · 15/10/2022 15:06

Yes, yes I do!

so I can help by assuring you you're not imagining it, but no idea who made it or what it was called!

someone will be along soon that can tell us I'm sure!!

Yes they were Keillers. My grandparents used to have them in a bowl on the sideboard mixed with Nuttall’s Mintoes. About 1973. Happy memories 😊😊

TheDouglasChater · 15/10/2022 15:12

Ohhh I loved them. Sometimes, if they'd become a bit too warm, they became a bit gooey and stuck to the wrapper.

Megapint · 15/10/2022 15:14

I remember them. We always got one from the butcher when we went shopping with my mum.

Ihaveamagicwand · 15/10/2022 15:17

Callard & Bowser made the individually wrapped ones. They were my favourites as a child.

Definitely Keiller’s Butterscotch, my grandma had a sweetie jar and used to buy pick and mix from Woolworths and there were always some butterscotch in there

Mossstitch · 15/10/2022 15:32

@Ihaveamagicwand oh I loved those, the way they came out of the packet fascinated me as a child, they did treacle too if I remember rightly in red foil🤔😋

Rowgtfc72 · 15/10/2022 20:26

Definitely keillers. They were lovely.

MovinOnUp · 15/10/2022 20:28

My dad used to work in the Keillers factory in Dundee.
I absolutely LOVED those sweets.

tobee · 15/10/2022 20:31

They were my thing

ShaunaTheSheep · 15/10/2022 20:34

Callard & Bowser - maybe it was regional? I'm in the south.

Yes! The gold wrapping! My grandad used to have a jar of them and would sneak us one when we visited <happy times>

BlackCatTabbyCat · 15/10/2022 20:43

I was thinking about the butterscotch sweets I used to eat as a child just yesterday. This was the 90s though and they were wrapped in a blue foil and also just as you describe like butter portions.

Treaclemine · 13/11/2022 19:05

I was looking for the thread on discontinued sweets to post about Callard and Bowser's, both the butterscotch and the nougat, same shape surrounded by ricepaper and then silver wrappers inside the rectangular package the same shape as the butterscotch.
Fallen foul of the habit of companies to buy out another with successful products and then drop them.

OldFan · 20/12/2022 21:08

Hi OP I just happened to be googling these sweets and found this thread. From googling, PP's are right and they were called Keiller Butterscotch. My mum used to take library books to elderly ladies and they used to give me these Smile The wrappers were part of their charm.

There are a lot of places that claim to make stuff that tastes similar. Maybe we should all buy different ones and give ratings. Smile

@Treaclemine Apparently this company claim to do the butterscotch you mention championreeves.com/product/butterscotch/

OneLemonSnake · 22/01/2025 03:55

Oh yes! I loved it! Didn't they also have a black treacle one? I am sure I remember that one.
