Low blood sugars in 3 year old

does anyone have experience of low blood sugars in a 3 year old?

DD has had numerous health issues, she is extremely short (not even close to being in the growth charts). She doesn’t have a hormone issue, so now we’re waiting for genetic tests to come back.

DD has always had low blood sugars when very poorly, with gastroenteritis it was just 2.5 and then oral herpes just 3.

she had blood tests yesterday and they came back with a reading of 3.1. This was about 30-40 minutes after she’d eaten 1/2 pan au chocolate, 3 small sticks of watermelon, a squeezy yogurt & a babybel.

she now has to go into hospital for a fasting test.

The paediatrician said that 3.1 was borderline low but wanted the fasting test done anyway.

I’m of course Dr Googling but really cannot find much that is helpful.

anyone have any experience of low blood sugars? Could it possibly be diabetes?

It could be hypoglycaemia ( as a condition, not just as a symptom) or it could be diabetes. Thing is with diabetes-it's more common to be hyperglycaemic (high blood readings) but diabetics get low (hypos) if uncontrolled.

Usually diabetics get higher blood readings with infection but gastro symptoms will lead to lower blood blood sugars due to lack of food/fluid intake.

Does she get high readings and does she experience symptoms?

Do you check your DDs blood sugars often?
