Can someone help me with how to set up a smart plug system so I can turn off my immersion heater, electric radiators, etc when I’m not home? I’m clueless 😂

It’s for a business property that is sometimes empty and it would be great to be able to make sure everything is off without having to rely on others or go there to check.

I’d really appreciate some help. What do I buy and how do I set it up on my phone?

I have a couple of Alexa devices at home, a show and a couple of echo dots. Do I need one in the work property? I don’t really want other people getting my Amazon notifications or playing music on it or whatever though.

As you can see, I’m properly clueless and need help! Thank you 🙏

With my new heat pump I got an app on my phone to control it remotely. It works off my broadband. That's all I know but if love to understand this stuff better, like internet enabled video doorbells that don't need a subscription. I hope somebody knowledgeable comes along

Hi - you can do this v easily using Alexa

Cheapest way is to get an Alexa flex (they are basically a plug) - cost £20, £10 on prime day

Then buy a couple of smart plugs (I like Tapo plugs) - you can control these from the Alexa app /create a timer and routines etc using Alexa app on your phone

It should be possible to disable alerts/notifications from the Alexa flex (or simply turn sound off - these don’t have any screen and look just like a plug so I don’t think people would even realise it’s a device

I’ve added a couple of pics - actually with Tapo you can just use their app and you don’t even need the Alexa (although I use the Alexa app to control my Tapo devices for convenience)

Can someone help me with how to set up a smart plug system so I can turn off my immersion heater, electric radiators, etc when I’m not home? I’m clueless 😂

You can just buy smart plug adaptors and control from an app on the phone. But, this means you can't manually turn on and off, needs to be on the phone. Can set timers etc. No need for Alexa
