Hi all. I randomly found a necklace I lost in the garden and was just wondering how to clean it so it's safe to wear? One single jump ring on it must have been made from something non silver bizarrely and has rusted. Since it was lying in soil for however many months I'm slightly concerned it could be carrying a tetanus risk. Probably silly I know- but I get a bit easily freaked out by these things! I've wiped it with a disinfectant wipe, is that enough? It didn't get the rusty colour off the bit that has gone funny. Can the rust even be cleaned off or is it just ruined? Such a shame to find it just to have to bin it!!

Thanks!

Put it in Coca-Cola. That should clean the rust off.

Wow never would have thought to try coke! I'll give it a go. Is it the acidity??

I just came to say this I've cleaned a rusty bangle with cola as long as it's full sugar cheap cola does the job, leave it for a day or so.

The acidity and the sugar. I remember in Science at school putting dirty pennies in Coca-Cola and they came out sparkling. It's also good for cleaning the toilet 🤣
