I've just googled some of my old usernames and the cringe is real

Not least because I did that made up swearword thing (Mingehammer! Wankbiscuit!) a lot circa 2010.

Also it turns out lots of my comments on all sorts of subjects have been quoted elsewhere on the internet. My views on lockdown, spiralisers, the royal family and more are well documented. I'd seen quotes elsewhere previously but nothing of this magnitude.

And I overshared sooo much. Particularly in the days before I realised there was such a thing as a poo troll (don't ask).

Plus there's a photo of a hairdo disaster I consulted s&b about.

Mostly though it's just the way I wrote, in that ooooh I'm so wacky and witty, me! way.

Google yourself. Share my shame.

I’ve forgotten most of my previous usernames

Spicycurry · 13/10/2022 13:24

I came across a thread I wrote about ten days post partum.

I can say with absolute certainty I was completely barking mad Smile

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 13/10/2022 13:25

90% of the stuff I put on here (as in threads I started) I put in chat so my digital footprint is quite small and in RL I don't actually exist. I have gone as far as twenty pages of Google with my real name and nada, just the way I like it. Grin

EerilyDevilled · 13/10/2022 13:29

This is why I change my name very regularly indeed and never use those names on any other social media.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/10/2022 13:30

It's worse when you've had the same username forever. I definitely went overboard with the MN slang and faux wackiness. Mind you, I cringe reading my comments from last month so maybe I'm just a tit Grin

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 13/10/2022 13:31

I will NEVER look up my old usernames. It would pain me too much. 42 year old me is quite different to 28 year old me!! Can't believe as I type that that I've been using mumsnet in 3 different decades of my life 😱
I get the cringe when Facebook memories gives me my status updates from 2007, I really don't need to read my political views or relationship woes from back then!!!

Pixiedust1234 · 13/10/2022 13:32

The joy of having numbers after a common word name means anything i say gets buried 😂

So I googled my real name. Apparently I'm listed on the 1940 census. In America. Neither true. I think my digital footprint is reasonably safe 😇

Spicycurry · 13/10/2022 13:53

@CloseYourEyesAndSee god me too …

Yep. That slang'n'wackiness is a bastard. If I'd known how silly I looked I'd have shut the fuck up for sure.

You're not a tit, Jesus!

I never thought I'd say that particular sentence...

EndlessMagpies · 13/10/2022 14:07

More often than not I use generic words for a username, so anyone trying to search wouldn't get anywhere at all. Something like 'sycamore' or 'bandicoot' for instance (but not those, obviously).

A lot of my old names are quite generic but if I search (name) Mumsnet it comes up with the goods. Unfortunately.

Ah, I've just done this (prompted by this thread) and have just realised that my comments were featured in a Daily Mail article in 2016!!! Get me! 😂😂

CosmopolitanPlease · 13/10/2022 14:18

I don't know why but I am picturing the op as Caitlin Moran 😂

I cringe so bad when I remember the posts I used to make on another message board in the early 2000s. I was so trying to be cool and funny, and I was around 30 with three kids fgs! Pathetic, and I had horrible opinions too. I'm a completely different person now, which is weird when I think of family members who have died since and now wouldn't know this me, iykwim.

Era · 13/10/2022 14:20

I read a post the other day and actually read it out to DH and said “what a knob”. I then realised it was me under an old username…

Inmyhandbag · 13/10/2022 14:30

I've been on MN for over 13 years now and I cringe too, I certainly overshared in my early days and wish those threads would just disappear. We had fun though, didn't we?

ICanHideButICantRun · 13/10/2022 14:31

@Era That reminds me of the thread where a woman asked for advice about a buggy and then years on answered the thread giving advice about the buggy! I think there were only two posts, too!

I shall take this as a compliment to help assuage the cringe, somewhat.

Oh - I might give it a go then...

Oh lol, I'm in the Daily Mail 😂
