Switch games for 5 year old?

PinkyandtheBrainBrainBrainBrainBrain · 12/10/2022 19:15

Looking for ideas for Christmas.

My girls have a Nintendo Switch between them but my 8 year old uses it far more than 5 year old, playing Minecraft, Harry Potter etc. These games are too hard for 5 year old. Tonight she announced that she would like Santa to bring her a Switch game that she can play.

Any ideas??

If you can play with her, or her sister, then Rayman legends. It allows you to play co op and because it is side scrolling, its far easier for a younger child. Fun for adults too.

I’d be happy to try. I find it so hard though 😳 I mean Minecraft is a total mystery to me. I can barely get it to move in the right direction!

Must be officially old. Bring back the Sega Mega drive I say.

Paw patrol, pj masks, sponge Bob Square pants and the lego world are all designed for younger players. I think they are 3+ rather than 7 which makes them much easier.

My dd is 5 and happily plays Animal Crossing (she just needs help sometimes reading the text to select the right option) Minecraft (I can’t bloody play it but she can!) and paw patrol games.

My youngest was 5 when he got gis switch. He played Minecraft on it at that age. He had Mario, Super Mario Bros, and Animal Crossing as well that I remember. Yoshis crafted world and Kirby and the Forgotten land might be quite good too.

What I've found is that different kids enjoy different types of games. My eldest is 9 and still struggles with campaign type games, and ones that require quick reflexes like Mario. That my youngest is 7 and great with those type of games. My eldest is great with the pokemon games that are a bit slower. And he loves the designing and world building games.

If you get the online expansion pack, you can get old SNES, N64 and Mega Drive games. Which my kids love!

I have a five and eight year old. They both absolutely love Mario party and play it together and separately. They also like Mario Kart and animal crossing.
Mario Party is my favourite because we can play it as a family or they can play it together / alone.

Now I like the look of animal crossing for her (she’s not into Minecraft she said she doesn’t like that its ”dark”) but here’s a question.

Am I right in saying that it’s only 5 that could play that, as it can only have one player playing it, one world or something?

More than one person can play it. But you only have one island or world per switch. So it doesn't really work if the different players have 'creative differences'.

But I really enjoy Animal Crossing.

Loveplusfear · 12/10/2022 19:45

I've just remembered my kids have one called Little friends or something that's basically just like Nintendogs. Would she like something like that?

PinkyandtheBrainBrainBrainBrainBrain · 12/10/2022 19:51

Is it like Minecraft? Do they build stuff?

I second Animal Crossing.

It's a wonderfully gentle game.

PinkyandtheBrainBrainBrainBrainBrain · 12/10/2022 19:54

Also is it mario party or mario party superstars 😩 sorry but it’s all quite baffling!!
