Would you mind this?

We are a couple in our 60s . Went out for coffee this morning and sat on couch type seats as quite comfortable with a lowish table in between. All fine. Dh decided to order poached egg on toast at the last minute. When it arrived he sat back on couch..opposite me..and proceeded to eat off his lap. I found it awkward but he was adamant it was fine. Would you be comfortable with this?

Yeah it's fine.

TallulahBetty · 12/10/2022 15:42

What bit should we mind? The eating off his lap?

AnneLovesGilbert · 12/10/2022 15:43

Love a poached egg, sensible man. Not sure what you’re worrying about. Eating on his lap? Have you ever had a picnic? That can involve eating on your lap on the floor…

Surely the only issue is whether he is comfortable.

Are your rules about what kind of eating seats are acceptable really that strong that this made you uncomfortable?

junebirthdaygirl · 12/10/2022 15:44

But it's in a coffee shop not a picnic or at home on the couch

If they're serving food they should have appropriate tables or be aware people will eat on their laps

My only concern would be it's a bit easier to spill / drip the food on himself while sat back .
But hunched over a low coffee table would be uncomfortable so I would also sit back .

OK l will have to look at why l was uncomfortable! No rules as had never even thought about it before.
Lots of proper tables but as we went in for coffee we sat on couches which did make eating poached eggs a bit awkward.
