Polite reminder about pay rise

About 2 1/2 weeks ago my boss said he'd recommended I get a pay rise to the company director and was fairly sure I'd get it. I've heard nothing more about this and am fairly certain I won't unless I raise it again.

I've just delivered a big project successfully and a key colleague left (and ive temporarily taken his work on) so it's a good time. What is the best way to raise this that isn't 'show me the money'??

Hi boss, any news on the pay rise we discussed a couple of weeks ago? I'm pretty direct though - nothing to lose from a follow up surely?

Ha yes that would be straight forward @oranga - it's a bit rubbish having to bring it up again. It would be nice if they would simply follow through.

I feel awkward about asking for it.

This. No point beating about the bush.

It's natural to feel awkward but put it this way - would you put off any other work conversations which were a bit awkward? Your boss brought it up and recommended you for a pay rise. I don't think you have anything to lose by asking!

Just see it as another task.

Your not awkward to mention it. He offered. See where it's at.

The day after posting I got my pay rise 🙂 a very decent one too and significantly more than I expected. But in future I just need to remember to see it 'as another task' as suggested. Only I will lose out by doing nothing!
