Dreaming about adult kids as toddlers/young?

Hi,

Whenever I dream (albeit the ones I remember), if my kids are in the dream for whatever reason, the main dream may not even be about them, BUT my kids are 'always' very young (under 10).. and yet in real life my son is 31 and my daughter is 33 LOL

It isn't a problem or anything, but I'm really curious why I 'never dream about my kids as they are now as adults?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Sometimes I dream that my oldest is a baby. It’s always something weird and unsettling like I’m driving him to football practice then I look back and see he’s a tiny baby. Or I realise I’ve left him home alone and he’s just a baby. Just weird sort of scary dreams! I think it’s linked in some way to him being my oldest and knowing that sometimes I feel further from him/he’s more independent now and I can’t control every part of his life to keep him safe, so it manifests as the dreams! I don’t think it’s unusual or bad.

Yes!

Its never happened before but about a week ago I dreamt that someone was being horrible to my youngest. I won’t go into details because it was a nightmare. But he’s 13 now and I did wonder where on my subconscious it had come from.

My Mum says she dreams about us as children regularly. She is in her 70s and I am getting on!
She says we are usually toddler age 2-3 and she is looking after us. 🥰
I love my Mum.

That's really interesting that 3 responses have already said the same (shame I can;t 'do a reply to posts on here'). I am 56 now, but the dreams don't even have to be about the kids (they are just part of another weird scenario dream lol) so I don't think it's about me needing to care for them or anything (one maybe yes still needs a bit of help, but the other is very successful and sorted).

I googled some dream stuff websites, but it's all guess work and unqualified answers, so I thought I'd just see if it was just me with real people here ;-)

In the fabulous This is Us final scene, the main Mum character has advanced Alzheimer's and they play out her 'dream' and she goes back to being 30s with her kids at primary school age.

So I think it's very common that this is when mothers particularly felt most alive?!? So it's what we then keep at the heart of our subconscious no matter how old we and they actually are.

I am at this stage now and certainly feel very 'full' in a wonderful way of kids and life without the overwhelm / crazy of younger years and yet it's before they start growing away from you.

So I think I could understand that this 5 years or so is the 'defining' age for me and will be with me in dreams / flashback / subconscious for ever.

yes, my two are nearly always children in my dreams, usually aged at about 8 and 4, or sometimes younger with my youngest being a toddler in a buggy.
In reality they are 18 and 22.

Maybe we tend to dream about intense times of our life like important exams and having small kids

Yes , my children are 25 and 27 and I only ever dream about them as kids.

Just came across this looking for the same answers. I'm 55 and my son is 30. He pops up in my dreams so frequently, but always in that 5-8 age range. I asked my mom recently what age my sister and I are in her dreams, and she said she said adults.
