Sleep apps/Pod cast/Meditation app

Have any of you come across any decent apps/podcasts to help you sleep?

My brain does not stop....
Constantly a song or 2, with added dialogue of endless random crap going round in my head....

I've tried Audio books, but have realised that listening to other people read really irritates me....

Need something to help me drift off..

Thank you!

I've just started using a podcast called Deep Sleep sounds

This is my specialist subject so hope I can help. The key is to find the sweet spot between something that is interesting enough to drown out your own thoughts, but not so interesting that you're staying awake to hear what will happen next. I struggle with meditation type stuff because it is too much at the boring end of the spectrum. I like history and science stuff mainly:

Podcasts:

History Hit with Dan Snow
Not Just The Tudors
In Our Time (extensive back catalogue with all sorts)
The Prime Ministers/ The Presidents with Iain Dale
Radio 4 Books and Authors

If I need something to watch on my phone:
The Sky At Night
Digging For Britain
Anything with Lucy Worsely
Any art documentaries

Nothing Much Happens knocks me out every night. The stories are fairly plotless so your brain doesn’t engage too much, but there’s lots of little details that pull your focus. Her voice is so soothing and I find I’m asleep before she finishes the first telling. Without her my brain just runs in circles and I can’t switch it off.

Calm app works for me, sometimes I listen to the sleep meditations and sometimes the stories. Exactly as Twoscotcheggs puts it they keep me listening but calm my brain.

I'm usually a big fan of Headspace - they have short guided visualisations to relax you and then sleepcasts, which are stories about nothing in particular.

But this week I read something in the paper about brown noise helping people with ADHD to get the inside of their head to shut up, and for the last five days have been listening to a 12 hour brown noise podcast on Spotify which has really, really worked for me.

The other thing which is also good is Paul McKenna's I can make you sleep - just get the book out of the library for the hypnosis which is really effective.

Thank you for all of the recommendations.

@expandabandband the brown noise is amazing! Sounds like being on an aeroplane, and really blocks out a lot of the noise in my head!!! Thank you...

It's amazing, isn't it? No idea how it works but it does!
