Bloody hell it's 13 degrees in my sitting room and it's only October...

Dread to think what it's going to be like in January.

Trying to hold out on the heating. I'm layered up, with a scarf, blanket and hot water bottle but my fingers are starting to change colour (I get chilblains / Raynaud's in my hands) so it's clearly not enough already!

Next time I'm buying a house with all the most-used rooms facing south...

Anyone else already struggling a bit?!

I'm in London and had the windows wide open this afternoon. Still very warm.

filka · 11/10/2022 18:22

You must be in a very uninsulated house in a cold part of the country? I live abroad but I can see that my home in the UK is 14C downstairs, 17C upstairs with no heating or hot water on at all. The house is about 6 years old so fairly well insulated.

Manasprey · 11/10/2022 18:27

Just got in from work(no heating on) to a cold house. I don't want to take my coat off. I might take my marking to bed. There's no point bringing the washing in cos it won't dry. I need a wee but the toilet seat week will be freezing.

maddiemookins16mum · 11/10/2022 18:31

I’m in Kent, this afternoon about 4.30pm I was freezing. I ended up putting my pyjamas on and thick dressing gown. No way am I putting the heating on before 01 November. We only ever have it on 2-3 hours a day from 01 November - 01 April at the latest.

Oblomov22 · 11/10/2022 18:35

It's 21.3 per our new hive. And we haven't even had our heating on yet!

WingingItSince1973 · 11/10/2022 18:36

I must definitely be menopausal because apart from heating on this morning for a little while, I've had windows and back door open today! 😅 Though kids are moaning it's cold 🤣

7catsisnotenough · 11/10/2022 18:42

16.5 in my lounge, SW, I'm in a fleece top and PJ bottoms with a cat on my lap and feeling ok atm...

Wow that’s cold. We’re in the midlands, haven’t needed to put our heating on yet and apparently it’s 19 in my living room. Do you have an old/draughty house?

It’s so variable. We’re midlands, this is typical for us the last month or so. I’ve used £1 in gas today to keep the house at 17°C in the day, and 18°C when DD’s home. It’s been on for around two hours to maintain those temperatures. The dining is unheated because we dont use it, and gets little sun.

For variety of reasons, this winter is going to be awful for me. Might have to start buying a lottery ticket!

@MinervaTerrathorn i wish I’d known that - I’ve misplaced my pair and couldn’t bear forking out for a full priced pair. Bought an alternative off Etsy & while they’re fine, you can’t tuck them onto your wrists as neatly as the turtle doves.

Will have one final push to find my pair before I buy ….

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 11/10/2022 18:51

I CANNOT get warm today..
Been for a brisk walk, done housework..
Still freezing...
I'm sat on the sofa with a jumper on and blanket ☹️
Hope I'm not sickening for something ☹️

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 11/10/2022 18:52

...oh and the living room thermostat sats 18 degrees!

No way

Wichit · 11/10/2022 18:53

You need to put your heating on OP.

MrsDThomas · 11/10/2022 18:55

My heating is on. Only because I can’t light the stove as im waiting for a part for it.

it will go off in a good hour. And we’ve also got blankets.

living 1000ft above sea level, its cooler and its a stone house

Shitfather · 11/10/2022 18:55

In London. It was very cold last night. So glad I bought an Oodie type thing from Primark at the weekend. It is AMAZING!! I slept with the hood on and it was so cost under my 4 layers of duvets and blankets.

13 isn't even cold? Jumper weather outside

Oh, bless your heart.

It's not particularly cold for outside, no. You do understand that inside is supposed to be different to outside, yes?

Solidarity to other Raynaud's sufferers - it's a real fucker.

My thermostat was clicking on at 11 degrees so I caved and put the heating on for half hour as it was bloody freezing in here

MrsDThomas · 11/10/2022 21:17

Op. People don’t realise Raynauds is a condition through the year, not just winter. My friend suffers in the summer

Marmite27 · 11/10/2022 21:21

It’s 17.4 upstairs in my single skin, end terrace in Yorkshire.

I’ve been out volunteering and have a jeans, a tshirt, hoody and gilet on. I had a glass of wine with my dinner and feel a bit glowy!

Marmite27 · 11/10/2022 21:28

No heating since the morning of 30th September when it came on for 15 minutes!

DinosApple · 11/10/2022 21:34

My sympathies op, I hate being cold. I've started keeping my coat on when I get home.

Best new addition to keeping warm in our house is a single duvet with teddy bear fleece cover on the sofa. Only good when sitting down though.

Really not looking forward to January/February especially next year.

Rosewaterblossom · 11/10/2022 21:37

I think part of it is some people have built up more of an intolerance to cooler weather. My sister, who lives a few miles away, said my house felt cool the other day whereas I was fine in a t-shirt and trousers. My tolerance to a colder house comes from living for a number of years without an efficient boiler (until it died) and radiators which would heat to luke warm mostly, and no heating in my lounge until i could afford a radiator.

My boiler is new now and the radiators more efficient but it's still a cost thing and my tolerance for colder temperature (as in I'm not generally uncomfortable until its below 10) is probably a good thing nowadays. Whereas my sister always has a warm house that's often too warm imo and my house certainly wasn't cold as she said on a sunny, warm autumn afternoon.

EndlessMagpies · 11/10/2022 21:54

I cooked a big casserole for dinner, and that has warmed the house up nicely. It is 21.2 in our lounge at the moment.

StridTheKiller · 11/10/2022 21:57

You can see your breath inside our house for the second time this week. I don't think my health will hold out till Spring in this situation we're now in, mental or physical.

purpleme12 · 11/10/2022 22:00

It's 15 degrees in our lounge and I thought our house got cold!
Yours is worse!
😞😞

DementedPanda · 11/10/2022 22:05

19.3 here in the North east. I've had the back door open too for a toilet training pup. Feels colder upstairs tho
