Things that have appeared in your house that no one has bought

Surely it can’t just me that finds random things in the home that I know I didn’t buy, and dh didn’t buy, and yet we have it.

I mean..we have 3 tape measures. We’ve never needed one! So I don’t understand how we have 3.

When dd was younger, I went to read her a bedtime story and there was a book there I know I didn’t buy her. So I made a comment to dh about the nice book he bought. Nope. Didn’t come from him either.

Neither of us had a clue of where this book came from. Still don’t

Odd socks. I don't know how they all appear in our house, but there's loads of them. No idea where their friends are!

Faircastle · 11/10/2022 14:45

Last summer, DH and I came home from a weekend away to find an (empty) two-person tent pitched in our back garden.

I WhatsApped the various young adults who live here (some part-time, others full-time) a photo with "Our garden. Not our tent. ??" None claimed responsibility.

DH and I went out for the day, came back and the tent had gone.

Keys. I think they’re multiplying by themselves. I’ve checked every window, door, bike lock etc and they don’t fit any. DH has no idea.
Its possible the children are actually magpies though.

I reckon fairies like to mess around with us and bring random stuff to people’s homes.

A mug with Hampshire Science Laboritries written on it just appeared in cupboard one day woth no explanation whatsoever. Neither of us work in Hampshire let alone a laboratory

Also a big bag of stickle bricks. No one knows anything about them but they just appeared in porch. We assumed it was some kind of free cycle thing delivered t9 wr9ng placenso we left.them there for 10 days but nobody collected them or contacted us. Eventually we gave them to DS who.was 3 at the time.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2022 14:52

Least the stickle bricks came in handy

I'd think that this had something to do with one of your young adult people having an arrangement with one of their friends.

Yeah you can stay but you can't sleep in the house and you have to be gone by 10 am on Monday ... yeah I'll leave the key taped under the door frame ... for fuck's sake why haven't you gone yet and they've seen your tent in the garden ...

There is/was a game on facebook where people find a tacky little niknak in a charity shop and hide it in someones house and see how long it takes them to notice.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/10/2022 15:56

Do you mean just a dress makers tape measure? A cracker offering perhaps - could explain how you have three if you got a couple of boxes from the same range?

CherryLongIsland · 11/10/2022 16:00

A pair of faded navy blue Slazenger trainer socks and a chipped Pyrex dish.

ZittiEBuoni · 11/10/2022 16:02

DH and I are locked in a dispute over a pair of black M&S jogging bottoms. He says they are mine, I'm sure they aren't. Neither of us has any recollection of ever buying, or being given, them. They don't fit either of us!

Nope. A proper metal full measuring tape

I once came back from the school run to an empty house and there was a glossy leaflet on my desk that hadn't been there when I went out, advertising for bell-ringers for a church hundreds of miles away, in a part of the country we'd never visited. No idea where it came from - DH had never seen it and was at work when it appeared, and we are most definitely not the bell-ringing type!

I've got a tape measure that isnt the best that I didnt buy it just seemed to appear. And crochet hooks.

We often had things at home that seemed to appear with my DF shouting for the owner.

Beebumble2 · 11/10/2022 19:13

We found a Le Cruset frying pan, brand new with labels in our garage. We certainly didn’t buy it, neither of our ACs claimed it. They certainly would have had it been theirs.
Nice find.

PerkingFaintly · 11/10/2022 19:16

All the pens.

Also, all the branded shopping bags. I haven't even been to that country in the last 20 years, never mind that shop.

Empra123 · 11/10/2022 19:22

A set of Christmas tree lights.

Damnloginpopup · 11/10/2022 19:58

Ltb. Your partners are clearly having affairs and or gaslighting you etc. Damn narcissistic fiends.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 11/10/2022 20:01

Those tape measures are mine OP, give them back! I buy a new one at least once a year and they keep disappearing.

I have teaspoons that aren't mine, I bought new cutlery all matching when we moved into this house and there are at least four teaspoons that are different from my cutlery and different from each other.

missmamiecuddleduck · 11/10/2022 20:38

Not me, but my daughter would find cut gemstones around the house.
