Passport problem

Posting here for traffic!
I've just been invited to go on a last minute holiday abroad in a few weeks time.

I have an in date passport but it still has my maiden name on (we've been married for 5 years but not been abroad in that time).
Will I need to get it changed asap or will they accept it as it is if I take it to the airport with my marriage certificate?

Book tickets in your maiden name so it matches your passport

Muuuuuuuum · 10/10/2022 20:46

Can you not just book travel in your maiden name, so it matches your passport?

Bratnews · 10/10/2022 20:46

As long as you book your ticket in your maiden name then I can’t see there being a problem.

HotStickyMess · 10/10/2022 20:46

By far the easiest thing would be to just book the holiday in your maiden name

Otherwise you will need to try and get a fast track appointment, but they are expensive and hard to come by

It depends what it clashes with, I guess. Do you mean you've booked tickets in your married name?

dementedpixie · 10/10/2022 20:46

So no, you can't take your marriage certificate as the passport has to match the name on the ticket

SouperNoodle · 10/10/2022 20:46

I literally had no idea I could even do that! Thanks so much.

I've not booked anything yet, thank god.
I've been invited onto a trial cruise by a friend who works on them and all I have to do is book my flight which I'm doing this evening.

OP do you realise you don’t have to change your name on marriage? You can keep your own name as long as you like just as your husband can.

I'm happy with my marital name 😊 I never intended to keep my maiden name. I changed my name with my bank, driving license, doctors etc but just forgot about my passport as we've not had a holiday abroad since we married.

I don’t know if covid passes are still a thing but if so, you’ll need to make sure the name on your covid pass matches the passport name

That’s fine, I changed mine too, I was just worried you thought you had to change it. Too many women I’ve met for some reason think it’s the law they have to change it on marriage. Some men seem to think their wife has to change it by law too.
