Help - wellies for EXTREMELY chubby toddler legs

Urgent help needed!

My 2 year old son has size 6H feet, and the supermarket wellies I just bought him don’t fit, though the foot size is fine. I cannot pull them up over his fat little ankles and calves - like all boots they’re just far too tight. It’s driving me crazy and he’s ruining his other shoes by constantly jumping in puddles!

Can anyone recommend any generous wide fit wellies for outdoor play? It’s not so much the foot size, they need to have a REALLY wide ankle/calf bit so I can actually get the buggers on.

Not too fussed about price point,at this point I just want to stop wasting money on wellies that should fit but don’t.

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried crocs brand wellies? They are differently shaped and might be more suited for a wider fit.

Fatbabyfeet · 10/10/2022 13:09

I have had a quick look, they just don’t look particularly wide though?

BAIYOU Baby Rubber Rain Boots Kids Waterproof Wellington Wellies for 1-6 Years amzn.eu/d/6DX3J16

My little guy has the same issue and I find these work great. They are also very light

Friends little boy sounds similar. She has resorted to Next short fur lined wellies in a size up and us considering waterproof walking boots as an alternative.

size up a couple of sizes with thick socks too.

Puddle suit and then chop top of wellies off

Are these the right age/size? Sorry I can't get past their 'accept all cookies' filter to see any more.

Otherwise, try googling Ankle Wellies Toddler or short wellies toddler and see if any of them look okay, some have elasticated sides.

So Clark’s do wider fit welly’s?

Fatbabyfeet · 10/10/2022 13:34

Just had a look at Clarks, they do wide fit so took a punt and ordered some. I’ll keep the other recommendations on the back burner just in case! Thanks so much everyone.

I had the same problem and resorted to baby bogs although they aren't completely waterproof.
The baiyou ones linked above are supposed to be great for really chunky legs and high insteps.
There were no supermarket or high street wellies that fit, clarks "wide" shoes aren't actually that wide when your toddler has super chunky feet and ankles!

A year later and DD could wear normal wellies as her legs grew longer and thinner. Hopefully it won't be a problem for you for very long!

Cut a V out at the back of each boot.
