Thinking of moving 7 year old Dd to a backless booster. But it's making me anxious as I would prefer her to stay in a high back.

she's quite tall - around 128cm ish last time I checked. She's about 4.5 stone. Not overweight I don't think but she's quite broad and looking a bit uncomfortable in her Joie high back booster. Sill do her exact height and weight later.

also, the head rest is touching the top of my car already, if I have to lift it any higher it won't fit, It must be a design flaw on my car.

but backless booster at 7?! My mum had us all in booster cushions at 3 but they do make me anxious and the laws have changed!

DS was in a high back until 10 before going to a backless. He has always been shorter than average though!

Do you have her in a coat? In regards to the seat height can you move it to the middle seat (paying attention to buckle crunch) as it could be that your roof starts to slant over your outer seats.

High back boosters generally have a weight capacity of 36kg so your dd really should have a ways to go in her seat (unless you’ve underestimated her weight) and it’s important to allow your child to completely outgrow each stage car seat before moving to the next one.

No coat, it's more so because she's quite broad like me. She still fits in but pretty uncomfortable looking. It could also be the car seat itself as the headrest looks a lot bulkier than most car seats with thick wings. I can't really move her into the middle as it would give DS no room next to her - plus they need to have a gap 🤦‍♀️😅

I'd look at some other HBB options rather than moving to just a booster. See if you can find something with more width for shoulders. You might find a differently proportioned seat works better for your car too. What make car is it? Maybe others will have a good suggestion.
