How do I get my Venus fly trap to eat? 🪴

Random question … How do you look after a Venus fly trap plant?

I can’t seem to get mine to eat. I read they can eat fish food, so I tried feeding mine a fish flake and it closed the trap around the food however the next day the traps open again and it hasn’t eaten the food. Does it not like the food?? What should I feed it? And how often?

Any advice appreciated 🙂

Mine are all ready to go to the porch. Fly trap and a few sundews. I’m wondering if I should wait til the last flower stalk dies, or if I should chop them off and do it now. Think I’m gonna miss them! And also a bit worried that the gnats might come back.

It won’t do any harm to leave it a bit longer. My favourite ones are still in the kitchen too.

Ok, I’ll leave them a bit longer. I like looking at them.

Thanks Venus 😊

I took Rahna outside earlier for about 30 minutes - went to check on her and all the heads (?) we're closed! No flies in site and also one is 'eating' the smaller one lol

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 17/10/2022 07:00

Have they opened up again checo?

ChecoPerez · 17/10/2022 09:39

@BrilliantGreenFlamingo not yet

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 17/10/2022 09:47

They must have caught flies then. They open up after a few hours if they haven’t caught anything. If you hold them up to the light, you will be able to see if there’s a fly in it coz you can see the silhouette inside the trap.

There's definitely none in there. I wonder if the wind triggered the trap

BrilliantGreenFlamingo · 17/10/2022 12:40

What’s strange is that they normally open up again if they get accidentally triggered. Because there has to be something wriggling inside for them to stay closed

ChecoPerez · 17/10/2022 13:30

They're opening up slowly

Oh I really want one!
