Part time now?

Would I be ridiculous if I cut my hours back now? I'm struggling to balance FT and dc and life. I might have an opportunity to cut my hours to 3 or 4 days but now I'm stressing about money. We can live on me doing part time now but what if life gets worse financially? I'm not coping but not sure if I just need to get on with it.

None of us can know your individual circumstances, but one parent working PT is a really sensible way for many families to work.
I went PT after having dc2, and it was 100% the right decision for us, even though money was really, really tight for a few years.
I'd rather have time to be together and time to get stuff done, than have new things. But other people would say "I couldn't do without ......" or "I'm not prepared to......".
We are all different.

What you might find, due to the way our tax system works and everyone having quite a large personal allowance now on which no tax is paid, is that your "take home pay" is quite a lot more than 4/5 of your current take home pay.
If you are then factoring in savings on child care, etc, then even more so.

Depends on so many factors such as salary, hours worked mortgage or rent and so in.

I went to four days and love it. I do cut back in other areas, save money by not working and pick up some freelance work for a bonus (not as easy as it sounds). I can also shop more economically too.

My parent were both full time and it was a total drain of joy in my childhood.

As pp says it won't be a 1/5 less. Martin Lewis tax calculator is excellent.
