What happens to all the hats the royal ladies wear?

I like looking at the formal royal fashion. I was just wondering where all the hats end up...there must be 1000's. They're not the sort of thing you could donate, do they rent them? Or do they get made up new/recycled? Not important in any way, just an idle thought whilst BFing

Good question.

I know the "teletubby hat" from William and Catherine's wedding was auctioned off by (never sure if Beatrice or Eugenie?) for charity.

I know that a lot of Diana's clothes were auctioned off for charity some years ago, but generally, I can't see them nipping down to their local Oxfam shop with a bag full of their things.

I think outfits including hats are used at multiple events. Maybe one high profile event then a few low profile events.

Some clothes must be kept since Bea raided Grannies wardrobe for her wedding dress.

I think I read Louise wore a hat to Philips funeral that had been previously worn by Kate or someone.

Oh this reminds me of my late Nan, she was a big fan of the Queen Mums hats, I still remember her saying ‘I wonder what happens all of to her hats 👒.
Nan would have loved one :(
