I need an owl!

I've got lots going on at the moment. At work I'm in charge of 300 students and 25 staff. At home I'm looking after 2 Ukrainian refugees whose original host placement is falling apart and my friends variously have bereavements, illnesses, redundancies, court cases etc to deal with. My mum is annoyed that I am 'busy'. All I want is a giant owl to come and hold me in her big wings and give me a cuddle and tell the that it'll all be ok and maybe cook me my tea. (My dh is being fantastic but is just about to go away for work.) help. Has anyone got any tips for how to find a spare mum / owl because I could really do with one right now. It's all ok but it's all a bit much, and I don't really know how best to look after myself while I have to look after everybody else.

Well you don’t have to look after anyone for starters. Only yourself and your children. Any other adults can take care of themselves.

so that leaves your anxiety about needing to be there for everyone else above looking after yourself. That’s a feeling that can only be felt - you don’t need to ‘do’ anything with it. Allow yourself to feel your humanity, your limits, then act accordingly to cut back so that you’re within your limits.

Delegate at work and don't take on extra unnecessary responsibility at home.

I’ve never thought of an owl, but you know what, that’s exactly what I need too. A big, wise, motherly owl to wrap me in her wings and coo at me soothingly.
Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. I’ve nothing helpful to offer but solidarity, and thanks for putting that cosy image in my head to help me off to sleep.
Off to see if there is an owl sounds podcast on iTunes…. Night night 👀

'She scooped me up in her huge grey claws
And bore me away, without any cause'

My DLittleSis calls me Owl because i have big eyes (and a massive head). Here is a great big cosy snuggly feathery owl hug.
I could do with a giant panda cuddle...

Thank you for the owl hug, the poem, the solidarity and the reminders. It's just so very difficult to not 'do' for others who need it. After todays news about Kyiv I cannot, for example, ignore my Ukrainian guests even though I desperately need some time 'off'. But thank you!

OP "My mum is annoyed that I am 'busy'."

tell your mum it's her job to be mummy owl and give you cuddles. Which it is.
