A mystery! My Smart meter and Nest thermostat are telling me different things

Has anyone else had this..?
Or can any explain how this is happening?

We have a Nest thermostat to control our heating and hot water.
And a smart meter for our Ovo utilities

When we went away over the summer, I turned off the hot water but the smart meter still showed gas was being used every other day

Since then, I have readjusted our hot water schedule to only come on every other day - and I know it is only coming on on those days because I can see the steam from the vent pipe.

But when I log into my Ovo account, it is showing daily gas usage and saying the smart meter is supplying daily readings.

We don’t have any gas appliances in the kitchen, and we haven’t turned the heating on yet.

Is my smart meter faulty? Is my gas supply somehow supplying a neighbour as well (although our gas usage is low so doesn’t suggest 2 houses worth)

I’m inclined to believe the Nest app because the times it shows the boiler being on tallies with when I see steam outside, but I thought smart meters were very smart

can anyone help me understand what’s going on..?

On your Ovo account are you looking at gas usage or gas cost? If you are looking at cost, there will be a daily cost even if you are not using any gas because of the Daily Standing Charge.

It says usage

On the ‘hot water off’ days, it seems to be around 7 or 8kwh, compared with around 11kwH on a day when we definitely have the water on

Does your boiler have a small storage /buffer tank in it? You probably have to find the manual, some larger combi boilers do.
