Advice on buying figure skates for DD10?

My dd aged 10 has been having ice skating lessons. She complains about the hired skates being uncomfortable so I made a deal that if she stuck at it, I’d buy her a pair. I don’t want to make an expensive mistake. Is the sizing odd? Would second hand be a bad idea? These are the brand names I’ve been seeing: Roces, Jackson, SFR, Graf, Wifa, Risport.

All good brands but differing widths. Second hand is fine - she’s going to grow out of them - just make sure you get the blades sharpened. If you’ve a rink shop you could try different brands for size then look second hand.

they should fit with thin (pop) socks - thick ones give blisters!

Take her to get them fitted. Unless you’re in the north east of Scotland I can’t recommend anywhere but it’s not that expensive, they usually cater to a wide range of budgets and will tell you what she needs boot wise. My sister was the figure skater in the family. I played ice hockey
