Could it be contraception to blame for my hair falling out?

I only have to brush my hair and long strands are coming out, sometimes many at a time. I find little hair balls round the house that can only be from me.

I’m on hormonal contraception (combined hormones) and have suffered the usual loss of libido, bloating… but my hair coming out?! I take many vitamins so can’t be nutritionally deficient in anything, so already ruled that out. I can’t see any bald patches so maybe my level of hair replenishment is normal but it feels excessive to run my hands through my hair and be left with hairy hands! Starting to worry a little about it, but I googled and went down the rabbit hole and saw some people on contraception experience this as a side effect.

Did/does anyone else notice a change in hair whilst on contraception? It is enough to make me want to ditch hormones altogether!

Loads and loads of my hair used to come out in the shower - I removed my mirena coil and it stopped! The crippling depression that had ruined my life for over a year abruptly ended too.

@Noln gosh. That’s really quite scary thinking all the hormones can do that to us. Did you find a better alternative or just stop altogether?
