Hi,
I've got 3 boys at home - ds12, dss12.10, and dss9.6.
Like most boys their age, they're avid gamers, in particular Roblox and Fortnite, and ds loves Pokemon Go.
They constantly ask for Robux or Vbux or Pokecoins or whatever currency their current favourite game uses. I don't like buying these, I think its a waste of money, but occasionally I'll give in and spend around a fiver so they can have a bit of this gaming money.
They don't have a great attitude a lot of the time. I recognise some of this could be due to gaming.. ds and dss12 are in full preteen mode a lot of the time - sulky, monosyllabic, and I certainly don't feel like rewarding them with gaming currency. Dss9 copies his brothers attitude and can be pretty challenging at times too.
I had the idea that I'm going to set them 3 chores a week each - and not just things like clean your room or do the hoovering, as they do things like this already. I thought things like "read for 1 hour" " draw a picture for your nana" "make everyone a cup of tea" "dss12 write down 10 things you like about ds" that kind of thing. Then, at the end of the month, as long as they've done every task I set, they each get £10 of gaming currency.
Am I crazy to think this might be a good way to get them to do things other than game? Before anyone says they shouldn't be just gaming anyway, ds is here 50/50 and dss's 30% of the time so it's often weekends that all boys are together and of course they love to game.
Does anyone have any other task suggestions?
