GP and sick note - been waiting for a week!

I have been off work with covid for two weeks. I have had a moderate dose and been quite poorly. Obviously I could self cert for the first week but was still unwell. So last Friday I contacted my GP for a sick/fit note. I spoke with the receptionist who said I didn’t need a telephone appointment with a GP, they would issue a note and text me when it was completed.

Since then I have rung up several times to chase it. It’s apparently on a GP to do list and they haven’t got around to doing it yet! Im due back in work tomorrow and feel a lot better, but I’m in the difficult position of not having the sick note to hand in. This could mean losing a weeks pay not to mention my employer isn’t going to be impressed!

I work school hours so will be going to the surgery after work tomorrow if it hasn’t been done and asking them if they are planning on paying my wages for a week as they have left me in a very difficult position. I am so annoyed.

Anyone ever been in this position? Is it worth lodging a complaint tomorrow with the practice manager?

Didn't want to read and run, not been in this situation myself but have you asked to be put through to the secretaries? They may be able to get it actioned quicker. The secretaries at my practice are very good and seem to get things sorted quicker than receptionists!

Thanks I’ll try that in the morning

That’s not good at all. I called the GP for a sick line as I had covid and was still poorly. It resulted in a hospital visit as the GP was concerned about my breathing. In the process we forgot the sick note. But when I called up again they arranged for it to be done that afternoon and DH collected it for me. They couldn’t have been more helpful.

@Groovee that’s much better, I wish my GP was that organised!

@Biscuitandacuppa to be honest, it was a surprise as they missed Dh being really poorly last year, so I’ve lost a lot of trust in them now.

@Groovee since covid it’s impossible to get an appointment or basic healthcare. I hope your husband is feeling better now.
