Big cat sighting

For those who like this sort of thing.

I heard about it a couple of days ago but this article allegedly has a "sound" to go with it. Sadly I don't think it sounds like a sound from a living being.

Ha ha, this takes me back. Big cat sightings are so 90s.

They're always domestic black cats seen from a distance.

It's funny you should say that
I have no recollection of any reports till about the 2010s but it might be just a case of what news I heard - it would have been less likely for me to hear about it in the 90s and before t'internet was in daily life usage.

also, tbh it didn't really interest me that much till I spoke to someone about illegal imports of animals. Now I find it all really interesting but I suppose it's because I want it to be true.

So, no MNers in the area spotted it then? Pity.

I'm a farmer and that's a cow

Scrowy · 06/10/2022 20:51

A lying down cow having a good old scratch... to be specific

MumE78 · 06/10/2022 20:55

Thanks for the share!
Love this stuff 🙌

Cocolapew · 06/10/2022 20:57

How come nobody has zoom on their cameras when they're filming big cats or Nessie? 🤔

Didn't realise anyone had claimed to have footage of Nessie!

do you think she co-ordinates her publicity schedule with other creatures around Britain? 😂

Have been googling and realised why I link it to 2010s

seems to have been a sighting in Essex that someone later claimed was a soft toy and I was like, WTF. I think I recall Mark Austin talking about it on the news.

Most of these so called sightings are just big black maine coon cats, but this one does look like a cow,it appears to have horns.

Misspacorabanne · 06/10/2022 21:14

It's a cow! The other sheep in the field wouldn't be close by if it was a big cat surely?

EmmaH2022 · 06/10/2022 21:16

If it's a cow, once again, my dream of curious creatures roaming the land has gone kaput!

The big giveaway if that the other sheep in the field are completely relaxed, to the extent they are also lying down.

even if something like a fox or a hare potters through a field with sheep in the sheep will stand and be 'on guard'. They sort of stand staring at the animal that's not supposed to be there.

The sheep in this field are apparently entirely unfazed by the alleged big cat munching on one of their mates.

and yes cows and sheep can share fields, if anyone was wondering (someone genuinely asked me that once).

We had a local “ panther” a few years back. Lots of airings usually in evening and early morning. One local “celebrity “ had his 15mins of fame in the local rag with distant photos etc. They are notorious for their “big” stories and bullshit so no one paid much attention to them and they still get the piss ripped out of them to this day.
However, I recently found out that there was a panther and a bob cat roaming the locality ( very rural with lots of woods and plenty of food) because I know the person who was employed to get rid of them.
They had been in a private collection but the owner let them loose when they couldn’t sort out a proper licence to keep them. They probably would have died naturally but local livestock were being attacked so the farming community decided to “cull” them.
Whenever I see the local “celebrity “ it always brings a smile to my face because they probably weren’t bullshitting, but they will never know.

airings* sightings

WonderingWanda · 06/10/2022 21:43

The sound on that recording from the tent is terrifying. I doubt tent canvas is much of a barrier to a hungry big cat.

EmmaH2022 · 06/10/2022 21:48

Angry confused, who will never know?

Wondering I thought that noise sounded machine like.

Surely half the point of camping is what might be outside? I've only camped in the Outback though.

Years ago, we had a very large, fat, feral tomcat doing the his daily stroll around the village, part of his route was to stand on our wall (about 5ft height), and slowly, like treacle he would slide down the wall into my potting table, where he would doze in the sun awaiting some fuss and a treat.
This was visible from a picnic bench placed on a canal towpath directly across from our garden. One nice day I was hanging up the washing whilst the tomcat went about his slide down the wall manoeuvre, and heard a tourist excitedly tell his friend that he’d just seen a panther in that garden.
Angles of sight, perspectives and imagination seem to be behind a lot of these sightings. Although I suspect that a fair amount of wildlife not native to the uk was set free when regulations regarding keeping wild animals in domestic setting where tightened up (1970s??!). So, it may be possible?

I’ve a miniature panther sat on my sofa.

Big cat sighting
1245J · 06/10/2022 22:11

It is not a panther. It is a bovine 100%. I have seen the video on a large screen high res. It’s rear hind leg is stretched out and it is licking itself, shirt horns very visible. Looks like a Black Angus steer.

EfficientDynamics · 06/10/2022 22:19

Google; Big Cat Great Alne Warwickshire

If you watch the video, look at its tail. I don't think that's a house cat

ContSalw · 06/10/2022 22:23

I thought it looked like a cow - I'm not a farmer but have to queue sometimes behind the milking herd crossing the road!

1245J · 06/10/2022 22:25

😂

What? This big cat from Great Alne

bloodyunicorns · 06/10/2022 22:28

No way would the sheep be all grazing calmly if that was a panther eating one of their mates!! 😂😂
