Passport Turnaround times?

I know it says ten weeks on the website and there were huge issues over the spring and summer but anyone got any hopeful passport stories for me?

Booked a weekend in Berlin for the Christmas markets - first weekend of December, only to find that dd's child passport will have less than three months on it then & need three months to go to Germany. I've applied on line for an adult renewal of child passport and sent off old passport today. 8 weeks until the booked weekend, how likely is it could be here? Anyone got there's in less than ten weeks recently?

Oh that's promising! Maybe I won't cancel or change the flights just yet then. Thank you!

One of my DC applied for a first adult passport over the summer. It took about 2 months to come back.

Applied on the 8th, received new passport on the 29th.
I delayed posting my old one back as I kept forgetting, I think there was one postal strike and certainly a bank holiday during that time as well.

This was also over the Queen dying/funeral/bank holiday so that may have delayed a few days

To add to the above, they received my old passport on the 16th.

I think you'll be ok. Applied for DS, DD2 and DH none of them have had a passport before. Longest was DH (at 53yo) and that took about 6 weeks.

I'm extremely envious of your trip to Berlin. It's my place.

Adult sons renewal took 10 days recently.

BumWeasel · 05/10/2022 21:37

My friend sent his off at the beginning of May and hasn't got it yet. He sent a complaint and they said he just needs to wait longer.

I lived in Germany for many years as a child/teenager - not Berlin though. When I get off the plane and see German signage everywhere and hear people speaking German I feel like I have come home 🇩🇪

I've been back in the UK a long time now but there was a time when I was more nervous to speak English than German in shops, restaurants etc Smile just felt wrong.

He needs to escalate that. They have a fast track process for passports that have missed their 12 week SLA.

Waiting times have come down since the summer peak but as per this experience there are more isolated cases that seem to take ages for some inexplicable reason.

OP - your travel insurance won't cover you for a passport that hasn't been processed on time. HMPO won't compensate you either.
You will need to check the status of your application on the portal frequently in case of any issues like photo quality, missing docs, referee not replying etc . Do that and you should be fine.

We got ours within a week but the child passport took a little longer. Maybe 2/3 weeks
