DH saved a daddylonglegs that was trapped in the cat’s cream saucer

So he was emptying the cat’s saucer and there was a DDL (daddylonglegs) floating. Tipped contents down the sink but the DDL showed signs of life and so he put it on a piece of kitchen roll on worktop to recover.

He went back to work - wfh.

Later - DDL disappeared! Happy ending!

Later - a bumbling DDL was on the floor near the dog’s food bowl and DH bloody stood on it whilst feeding her. His eyesight is crap. Maybe it wasn’t the same DDL….but Sod’s law it was. Never a good deed goes unpunished ☹️

What a hero 😆

Love this… I’m sure the one he rescued flew away to its friends and it was a different one he stood on, that was an old one that was already dead and had lived a full DLL life

I’ve just realised I’m calling it a DDL not a correct DLL! Thank you for not calling me out on it

I thought you were going with DaDdy Longlegs 😂

Snooks1971 · 05/10/2022 21:22

@OneToThree in my head yes…it was logical at the time. This is Mumsnet, I spent too long checking my apostrophes and forgot the basics!

Poor DLL.

Reminds me of the time DH rescued a baby rabbit from one of the cats... and promptly dropped it on it's head

HebeSunshine · 05/10/2022 21:26

Aww the poor thing had a longer life than he would've, I mean a couple of hours in a spider's life is like 30 years right?!!

LetUsPonce · 05/10/2022 21:31

Poor DDL. Sophocles clearly right. Fate has a terrible power.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 05/10/2022 21:34

Ooo a cellar spider? I welcome those as they eat the big fuckers 😁I'll allow them to live in my house as they are keeping the big house spiders away.

One of these critters was buzzing around my head a kept landing on my pillow on Sunday night. I kept flicking it off but it wouldn't leave me alone. I ended up getting up and sleeping in another room.

The next day my husband asked why didn't I just kill it. I gave him a lecture on all creatures being equal, blah blah blah, and I got quite animated and threw a bag of shopping down on the table while I was talking. Later, once I'd put the shopping away I discovered a squished DLL on the table where I'd thrown the bag. Oops.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 05/10/2022 22:21

Oh a crane fly! Not a cellar spider then I suppose. I don't see many crane flies these days. I love how your DH saved it though 😁

PollyCreo · 05/10/2022 22:27

Oh my dcat once brought a live mouse in, got bored and walked off. I spent days trying to find this mouse, eventually found it and bought a humane trap. The wee mouse was successfully trapped - I released it into the wild only to see a bat swoop down 😲😢

HebeSunshine · 05/10/2022 22:50

Oh it was a crane fly not a spider.
We call the big spindly spiders DLL round here.
