Electric toothbrush recommendations

Hiya, my dentist has suggested I get an electric toothbrush. He suggested oscillating or sonic, but getting a basic one within that, say between about £30-£70 as he says it's not necessary to spend more than that.

Has anyone got any recommendations? There seem to be millions!

Buy the cheapest Phillips Sonicare you can find. The extra features don't add much. Also, try a WaterPik. I had terrible gum problems until I started using the WaterPik.

I did a lot of research when I bought my new electric toothbrush, I decided on buying another Oral B product as my last one was also Oral B, I was tempted with the i0 range, but couldn’t justify the cost. I purchased the Pro 3 3500, around £45 comes with a travel case, has a pressure sensor, charge lasts at least 2 weeks. I am pleased with it. If you look on line at reviews their is a company that has videos with the pros and cons of all the different toothbrushes. I can’t remember the name, but I found it helpful to come to a decision, the Pro 3 was recommended by them. I bought mine in Superdrug as I like the look of the travel case that come with their one.

I think that any reputable brand of electric toothbrush is so much better than brushing by hand that it likely won't make much difference which one you get.

We splashed out on a iO and it's been awful. We've had the body of the toothbrush replaced twice and it's playing up again. We originally had the most basic Philips Sonic one and that was just as good at cleaning and far less trouble.

Mine has just told me to get one with pressure sensors so that you don't press on to your gums too much, looking at the oral b pro 3, they are in sale at boots

Certainly. I have the WP-100W. It's been fab and not a problem with it in four years of daily use. I use it twice a day before brushing. Sometimes it's a bit shocking how much food debris it removes.

One tip for the waterpik - add a bit of antiseptic mouthwash to the water in the tank. That will help keep the bacteria down.

I have an Ordo sonic brush and am very happy with it. Dentist says my teeth are so much better (less plaque) since I’ve been using it and it wasn’t too expensive and the charge lasts literally months.

The cheapest Oral B will do what you need. The extra features really don't add a lot, I can't believe people spend £100's on a toothbrush.

My dentist recommended a Phillips Sonicare (I’ve got an oral-b but having a few issues). They have a basic one on sale for £29.99 from Superdrug.

My dentist only recommends Philips sonicare. I have one for about £50 from Amazon.

My dentist recommended any of the iO range. I haven’t bought yet as the price is putting me off. Even when Boots had them at 50% off.

I did however buy the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser WP-120U from Boots. It works well but a bit annoying it needs to be plugged in at the wall to work. I don’t have a shaver outlet in my bathroom so I keep it under the kitchen sink, which isn’t ideal.

Thank you everyone, I've ordered an oral b Pro 3 at half price. Those water picks look good but I can't bring myself to go that far yet (I'm dental phobic so an electric toothbrush is a big step!)
