You get certain songs that when you listen to them, you automatically think of a show or movie.

I’ll start with

Carry on My Wayward Son. Cannot hear that without thinking of Supernatural

Don’t Stop Believing. :- Glee

I associate Don't Stop Believing with the Sopranos. That song was never a hit here the first time around, can't remember ever hearing it on the radio until it got a second lease of life 10-15 years ago.

Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now by Starship is indellibly associated with the movie "Mannequin" which would be obscure and forgotten were it not for that song and it's music video.

Here's a few:-

'Unchained melody' from the movie 'Ghost'

'Back in Time' from the movie 'Back to the Future'

'She's like the wind' from 'Dirty Dancing'

Mrs Robinson The Graduate.

"Ghost" was a HUGE movie when it came out, it was the third most successful film of all time. It isn't forgotten but it isn't really talked about that much today compared to something like Pretty Woman which came out in the same year.
I guess because Julia Roberts went onto become a megastar and Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze really didn't, although they were successful.

Half the world away - The Royle Family

Istanbul was Constantinople - a firm favourite in our house now but it’s always about Five fighting in the donut shop (Umbrella Academy)

I always think of the opening scenes from The Stand, the tv series (from late 80s/ early 90s I think) where everybody's dead when I hear 'Don't Fear the Reaper' from Blue Oyster Cult.

Ginger1982 · 05/10/2022 19:23

I think there's a difference though between hearing a song and relating it to the movie it was the theme for and hearing a song and relating it to a movie in a less well known way.

Florenz · 05/10/2022 19:32

I always associate the "Jaws theme" with the movie "Jaws".

BeyondMyWits · 05/10/2022 19:35

How to save a life (the Fray) is always associated with Greys Anatomy for me.

AsAnyFuleKno · 05/10/2022 19:40

Assume you mean songs that aren't part of the soundtrack.

I always associate The Safety Dance by Men without Hats with the 1930s black and white film, 'The Raven'.

I associate The Fray's How to Save a Life with Eastenders
